Scores of singers have made an effort to give a memorable performance of The Star-Spangled Banner, the United States national anthem. While some remarkable musicians like Chris Stapleton at the latest Super Bowl gave an incredible rendition, other artists did not do so well. Conversely, there are still performers who nailed it in terms of achieving infamy with their ghastly performances that will forever remain embedded in history as one of the worst plays ever heard by patriotic American fans watching from afar.
As 28-year-old Ellynora passionately bellowed God Save The King while standing on the soccer field in front of thousands of fans in Naples, Italy, viewers watched with shock and dismay as her rendition woefully “butchered” the beloved anthem. This catastrophic performance happened right before England’s astonishing 2-1 Euro qualifying win over Italy, leaving citizens across Great Britain aghast.
Evidence of the incident reveals audience members wince and gasp in distress as Ellynora fails to perform her rendition of the British national anthem. She faltered throughout, much unlike how one would expect a spirited performance before an England-Italy match. Those present were horrified by her lackluster showing and expected to be uplifted – not subjected to such a lackluster display from someone undeserving.
Right from the opening notes, Ellynora’s performance of the British national anthem in Naples stadium fell apart. Fiddling with her earpiece as she tried to adjust and regain composure did nothing but further, disfigure what was already a botched attempt at singing before thousands of spectators in attendance and millions of Europeans watching across their home screens and pub televisions.
After her blunder, Ellynore tearfully apologized and then proceeded to deliver an exemplary performance of God Save The King for MailOnline. Sadly though, it was too little too late as this rendition would not be remembered among the most infamous national anthem performances worldwide.
Ellynora is a proud Italian-American. She stated, “I’m just so angry with what happened because I wanted it to be perfect, but what happened wasn’t my fault. I want to say sorry to all the England fans who were at the stadium and watching on TV. I’m mortified for what happened, and I want people to know that I wasn’t being disrespectful.
“It was such an honor to be asked to sing the national anthem, and I was so excited about it. I’ve never sung anything like that before. I’m more of a pop artist, but at the ground, there was a sound issue.”
She continued, “I had rehearsed the anthem twice the day before the match and then on the night three times, but when it came to the actual performance, I had a problem with my earpiece. I had the music in my ear, and then it stopped and started again, and I was hearing it twice, so it meant I was out of sync, and it was hard for me to catch up. I really tried my best to solve the problem, but there was nothing I could do, and I’m so angry about it. I was trying to adjust my singing to catch up with the anthem in the stadium, but it was too late.”
