In a momentous ruling, Spain’s court has mandated that an affluent husband must compensate his former spouse with hundreds of thousands in damages. This is due to the fact that Ivana Moral was deprived of pay for twenty-five years worth of domestic labor during her marriage to a Spanish businessman. Taking into account Spain’s minimum wage throughout this period, she will be remunerated with a total payout equating to $220,000 or 204,624.86 euros – surely putting an end to one woman’s long fight for justice and necessary recompense!

Judge Laura Ruiz Alaminos of Velez-Malaga, Spain ruled in favor of the ex-wife after carefully evaluating all aspects of their divorce case. The wealthy businessman’s husband had acquired extensive legal support to try and sway proceedings his way; however, Judge Alaminos did not deem this effort justified given that it was largely built upon the wife’s unwavering dedication to maintaining a clean home throughout their marriage. As such, she determined that reparations were due for her years spent tending diligently to household duties.

For years, Ivana Moral dedicated herself to the upkeep of her family’s home and caring for their two daughters. Consequently, she was unable to take the time needed to launch a venture or further her education due to her steadfast commitment as a housewife.

As a penalty for not fully compensating his wife during the course of their marriage, the husband must now pay $500 per month to his ex-wife. The father and husband are also required to provide an extra $400 and $600 respectively to both daughters who are twenty and fourteen years old.

In 1995 Ivana Moral made the decision to commit to her husband, only for it to culminate in an eventual divorce 25 years later. The judge’s ruling left her satisfied as she was rewarded a monthly payment from her former businessman husband; recognition of all the effort and dedication she invested into their marriage and family life over those two decades.

“Clearly, this was a case of abuse to be completely excluded financially (by my ex-husband) with nothing left after my marriage ended, so my daughters and I were left with nothing after all these years of putting all my time, energy and love in the family,” she told i. “I was supporting my husband in his work and in the family as a mother and a father. I was never allowed access to his financial affairs; everything was in his name.”

When Moral wed, her chances for growth and progress were close to non-existent because of her husband’s expectations that she entirely dedicates herself “to essentially [work] in the home, which meant looking after the home and the family and all that involves.”
