The internet can be a magical thing.

It lets us communicate with loved ones far away, it brings us news instantly, and it gives us endless ways to escape. But sometimes, the internet can make something truly special happen.

That’s certainly the case with Betty Morrell and her incredible story of reuniting with her birth mother after 82 years apart.
Betty was born to Lena Pierce in 1933 and was named Eva May.

Lena was 14 at the time, and the state of New York said her age made her unfit to be a mother so they took Eva away. Eva was ultimately adopted by a loving family and her name was changed to Betty Morrell.

Although Betty had a good childhood, she was always curious about her origins. After both of her adoptive parents passed away while she was in her early 20s, she started hunting down clues about her past.

A few clues from an aunt eventually led to her finding a half-sister on Ancestry.com.

Finally, after more than 50 years of searching, Betty found and was able to reconnect with her mother, Lena.At age 96, Lena has lived a full life as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but a part of her heart had been missing since 1933.

Mother and daughter tearfully reunited at an airport, 82 years after they were parted.

This beautiful reunion may have never happened without the internet, and we may never have gotten to experience the heartwarming joy of this story.
