Climate change has started to cause havoc all over the world, and this summer Europe experienced some extreme weather. A baby girl in Spain was tragically killed after she was hit by a giant hailstone during a storm. The hailstones were around four inches big and injured approximately seventy people in the Catalan town of La Bisbal de L’Emporda. Some victims suffered from broken bones whereas others faced more serious injuries, but the one-year-old girl sadly died instantly after being struck by the ice falling from above.

One of the sixty-seven people who got hurt during the hailstorm, a toddler, later died. Spain has been facing some pretty crazy weather lately, including wildfires that have destroyed large parts of its picturesque countryside.

The young girl was taken to a hospital named Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona after being struck by the four-inch hail stone. That was on Tuesday afternoon. By early Wednesday morning, the little victim had perished as the result of the severe head trauma caused by the ice dropping from the Spanish sky.

Another woman, who was also injured during the hailstorm, remained in the hospital.

Medical professionals treated many of the other victims of the freak hailstorm. According to a report published, the victims suffered from head injuries and cuts from the ice. Some people needed stitches, while others needed their bones to reset after suffering broken bones during the storm.

Many buildings, vehicles, and structures were damaged when the hailstones fell because they were as large as tennis balls. Not only that, but solar panels and patio/driveway tile were smashed due to the hail.

The heaviest hailstones on record in the last 20 years fell on Tuesday, according to Catalan weather officials. The disaster happened near Girona, which is located near Spain’s border with France.

Around 7:30 p.m., a tremendous hailstorm of stones fell from the sky. The twenty-month-old girl who died as a result of severe head trauma was struck by a hailstone shortly after the hailstorm began at 7:30 p. They hovered over me for about an hour and it got real cold, but I didn’t care because my core temperature had risen.

Since the freak hailstorm, people have been sharing photos and videos of the giant chunks of ice on social media. One video that was recently tweeted shows a man filling up a bucket with hailstone.

While most people were able to take shelter from the hailstorm, a one-year-old girl who died was not as fortunate. The little girl was hit by a hailstone and died while she sat in her stroller. Her mother sustained injuries from the hailstorm but is expected to make a full recovery.

The child’s death has caused an uproar on social media, with individuals requesting a probe of the freak hailstorm. Some are also pushing for improved warning systems so people can take cover when severe weather hits.
