In a rare twist on ABC’s *The View*, co-host Joy Behar stunned her audience by siding—at least in part—with President Donald Trump. Behar declared that she believes disgraced former FBI Director James Comey should face prosecution. But rather than pointing to Comey’s role in the infamous Russia Hoax—the very scandal that landed him under indictment—Behar bizarrely insisted that his real crime was hurting Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016.
For context, Comey was indicted on September 25 on two serious charges: making false statements to Congress and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. The case stems from his allegedly dishonest testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2020, where he downplayed the FBI’s role in pushing the baseless “Trump-Russia collusion” narrative. In short, he’s accused of lying to lawmakers about the Bureau’s involvement in one of the most dishonest political operations in modern history.
But Behar, never one to let facts get in the way of her feelings, focused instead on her long-held grievance over Comey’s decision to reopen the Clinton email investigation in the final days of the 2016 election. “You know, I don’t like Comey. I agree with Trump on this one… I don’t like what he did to Hillary,” Behar said, calling the email scandal “baloney.”
Her co-host Sara Haines pressed her on whether she was endorsing Comey’s DOJ prosecution. Behar backpedaled, admitting she didn’t really support Trump’s reasoning but wanted to stress her distaste for Comey. “No, no. I’m just saying. But I rarely have something I agree with Trump on. So, this is one thing,” she said.
In other words, Behar is fine with Comey being punished—just not for unleashing the weaponized FBI on Trump’s campaign and presidency. Instead, she’s upset that Hillary Clinton didn’t get an even smoother ride to the White House.
President Trump, meanwhile, celebrated the long-awaited indictment, taking to Truth Social with a fiery statement. “JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI,” Trump wrote. “He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
In a follow-up post, Trump hammered the point home: “Whether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED!… He just got unexpectedly caught. James ‘Dirty Cop’ Comey was a destroyer of lives… and a very big price must be paid!”
The contrast could not be clearer. On the one hand, the left-wing media is only willing to criticize Comey for not being partisan enough in Clinton’s favor. On the other, Trump and millions of Americans see him for what he truly was: a corrupt bureaucrat who abused his power, smeared an innocent president, and undermined faith in American institutions.
Even Joy Behar can’t bring herself to defend him. That alone speaks volumes. But her reasoning shows just how deep the rot runs on the left: it’s never about accountability, only about protecting Democrats.
