In the recent wake of tension between communities and their police forces, a group of officers in the Hampton, Virginia department got together to discuss the problem and possible solutions.

They decided to utilize a popular method of spreading a message by standing in public places and holding signs in the hope of encouraging more positive relations. The end result of the effort was a video called “Why I Wear the Badge.” The officers in the two-minute tribute were all in uniform and told various stories through their signs.

One said he was robbed and shot as a young man, and that is why he decided to become an officer and serve his community. Another survived being violently attacked. A female officer said each day when she leaves her home, she kisses her children goodbye because she does not know if she will come home that night.

A male officer showed his bloodied face after an altercation, and his partner told of saving a suicidal woman on a bridge.

The officers want everyone to know that the police are putting their lives on the line each day to protect their communities. They are human beings with families, children, hopes and dreams, and they just want to do their jobs the best way they can.

Police officers are the unsung heros of society. Our cities would be in chaotic disarray without them, who keep us safe day in and day out. They work long shifts with no breaks, skipping holidays with their families to stand guard over you when you’re unable to take care of yourself. It’s not glamorous, it’s hard work for low pay, but police officers do what others can’t or won’t do because they are brave individuals that care.

Police officers are true heroes that deserve recognition for all the good they do protecting people from dangerous situations every single day against criminals who have weapons and bad intentions to hurt innocent bystanders so thank you officers!)

Thank you officers!

Police are the guardians of society. They protect us from criminals so we can live our lives safely. We know there are some bad police officers but the vast majority of them do good work to keep us safe and protected against violence and crime.)

The “bad apples” in law enforcement need to be exposed and brought to justice. Thank you Entitled People for this opportunity.)

We all know the bad apples in every organization and we should work together to get rid of them. We can’t allow ourselves to be held hostage by a few rotten people because that only emboldens the criminals and gives them an advantage over good, hard working people.)

It’s terrible how some police officers abuse their power. They need to know that abusing civilians leads to their immediate dismissal. A badge does not give you a license to abuse people and we will work together to stop this from happening ever again.)
