A video of a mother-of-two from Britain went viral after she revealed how much her family spent during one day at Universal Studios in Florida.

The family’s day out cost $1,113, according to Miranda Pearce, a marketing coach from Sandbach Cheshire. The group spent a total of $483 on tickets, $396 on Fast Passes and $62.79 on lunch during the excursion.

The news sparked debate among viewers, with some saying the park had “fleeced” them and others arguing there are easy ways to save money – like bringing your own food and drink.

Miranda said in the video: “Guess how much we spent in one day at Universal Studios Florida – wait for the end, you ain’t gonna believe it.”

The total cost of the day was $1113.40, which did not include tips.

The mother’s morning started with a pricey breakfast at Wendy’s Drive Thru, which came to $21.79, followed by some expensive parking at $27. As the party continued, so did the expenses – prompting the mother to document her experience on social media.

Miranda showed a clip of her son holding a drink and said: “This is us getting a refillable drink for $19.”

When the family’s expenses began to mount, however, she was able to find a way for them to continue having fun. She then encountered King Julian from Madagascar, whom she refers to as her “absolute hero,” and the family appeared to be having fun despite the expenditures.

They paid $42.60 for a small memento, a Harry Potter notepad and pen, $62.79 for lunch of burger and fries, and $19.76 for some ice cream

She stated: “I got a coffee in the afternoon for $4.25, and we got dinner not too bad $34 at Burger King.”

The reason she paid for the fast passes was: “I’m not waiting around in any queue with a six-year-old,” before asking her audience, “Would you have paid that?”

Most people were dissatisfied with the costs, one individual claimed they had paid less for 14 days at Disneyland.

They added: “14 days at Disney a few weeks back and spent just over $1,000 in total! Backpack, flasks, snacks, Walmart deliveries. Mainly to save queuing!”

Another said: “They absolutely fleece their guests.”

When I went to Universal Studios in 2017, the prices were significantly lower, at $200 per ticket.

A woman admitted that she and her partner had saved up for the day: “Me and my other half are starting an Orlando fund to take our two kids but I fear no matter how much we save we just won’t be able to afford it.”

More experienced travelers replied to the video with tips, saying “bring your own snacks and drinks” and “skip the fast track tickets.”

Some people were more critical of the video, with one person saying: “You could get a villa in Portugal for that.”

Another added: “Not worried about your electricity bills then?”

One stated: “Why not? I got fast passes and had a great time there.”
