Kyleen Waltman was the victim of a severe dog attack in which she lost both her arms. The attack occurred when her neighbor’s pack of pit bulls got loose and came after her. On the day of the attack, 38-year-old mother had been walking to her mother’s home in Honea Path, a rural part of South Carolina. The dogs then descended upon her and didn’t stop until they mauled her entire body.
Following the attack, Waltman underwent multiple surgeries as doctors attempted to heal her broken body. They were unsuccessful in saving either of her arms and both had to be amputated. Now, 41-year-old Amy Wynne – Waltman’s sister – is asking for donations via a GoFundMe campaign that she launched, in order to help with the aftermath of the heartbreaking dog attack.
“We thought her right shoulder was going to be good and they were able to fit it with a prosthetic, well yesterday they found an infection in the bone and had to remove more of the bone. So now she will not be able to have regular prosthetics on either shoulder,” Wynne said in the fundraiser.
Waltman’s sister stated, “Her left leg is giving not only her but the doctors a fit. The infection in it is the same infection that she has had throughout her whole body, but for some reason the infection in her leg they can’t stop from spreading.”
When doctors informing Waltman of their failed attempts to save both her arms, she spiraled into panic and had to be sedated by medical professionals. Once she was able to deal with the news of losing her arms, Wayne stated that his sister is now “fully aware” of the permanent loss.
“The doctors have told Kyleen once again about her arms and about most of the damage the dogs had done. She is now fully aware of the situation. She still has a long way to go. She has survived this for a reason,” Wynne wrote on GoFundMe.
The family will see Justin Minor, the dog owner, in court this Thursday for the first time regarding the attack.
“We go to court and this is where the judge is going to tell him (dog owner) what all his charges are and the repercussions of his actions. So I ask that you all please pray for my mama when she sees him face to face for the first time since the accident that everything goes accordingly.”
On March 22, 2022, Minor’s dogs ran loose in rural South Carolina and violently attacked occured.
