People attempt to escape their responsibilities to their children and other people who are raising them. One father, however, decided to make a statement with his most recent child support payment by dumping an RV full of 80,000 pennies on the front lawn of his ex-wife’s home – but the kids got the last laugh.
An ex-wife’s lawn was inundated with 80,000 pennies after a child support hearing. The money that was owing was ordered to be repaid right away by the court. The judge determined that the child support would stay where it is for now until this debt had been fully reimbursed.
He decided to drop pennies on the lawn because he thought it would be a statement. He most likely did not consider how difficult it would be for him to get his money back by doing this!
Child support is a topic that people typically battled over when they divorce, but billions of dollars in unpaid payments are sent out every year, with youngsters being the ones who suffer.
This father thought that dropping coins on his mother’s lawn would be a gesture, but it was really rather juvenile and immature. Because of his action, he has himself in even more difficulty!
Even at the age of seven, this father understood that throwing money was a statement. Despite this, his daughter’s court order has not been lifted until the debt is paid off. This implies that regular child support will continue uninterrupted, even though he acted in such a juvenile and immature manner.
The unidentified father has not been named, but his teenage daughter is more than willing to voice her opinion on his juvenile behavior. When her father dumped tens of thousands of pennies on her mother’s lawn, Avery Sanford was disgusted.
Avery understands her father’s behavior was wrong, but she also believes it should serve as a warning to others. She wants people to understand the gravity of what her father did, both because it is so vicious and because it happens all too frequently during custody conflicts and throughout divorce proceedings.
However, when her father pulled the same stunt on her birthday as he did on her sixteenth birthday, things got worse. The occasion was supposed to be a joyful one, not marred by the cruelty of her biological father. His pettiness in order to teach his ex-wife a lesson offended many people, but it also communicated a clear message to Avery: that her dad is more concerned about making a statement than supporting her on her birthday.
The penny dump was captured on home security footage. Avery’s mother had no idea what was going on at first.
“She didn’t know who it was until he shouted, ‘It’s your final child support payment,” Avery said to WTVR. “It’s not just my mom he’s trying to embarrass. It’s also my sister and me, and it’s upsetting that he didn’t consider that before he did that.”
That’s when Avery and her mother conceived the notion of using the money to accomplish something worthwhile. They chose to donate the 80,000 pennies to a domestic abuse charity called Safe Harbor.
“Turning around and donating that money to moms and children in need, I feel like that really turns this situation into a positive,” Avery said. “You can learn from it.”
