As of today, Kelly Clarkson is now officially known as Kelly Brianne.
Brianne, the singer whose middle name is now her last name, made the decision to drop her famous surname.
No, this doesn’t mean that her talk show is going to be called something different. It will still be “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Although her full name is Kelly Brianne Clarkson, this does not mean that she will be credited as such in the show “American Song Contest” which she is co-hosting with Snoop Dogg. Instead, her credits will still read as simply “Kelly Clarkson.”
Clarkson stated to PEOPLE earlier that she planned to ditch the surname Blackstock following her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. She stated, “I had to drop my married last name.” She added, “I just kept my middle name for my personal life.”
Clarkson made it clear that her name is still Kelly Clarkson and she doesn’t want people to start calling her Brianne. She said, “I don’t think I can change Clarkson at this point. I’m 20 years in.”
As of March 28, 2022, Kelly Clarkson is no longer her legal name. A judge in California granted her request to change it. According to court documents, “There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted. The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner’s name is changed from KELLY BRIANNE CLARKSON to KELLY BRIANNE.”
According to court documents, Clarkson legally dropped the Blackstock from her last name recently. However, in an interview with PEOPLE, Clarkson claimed that she was merely reverting back to her maiden name. Clarkson clarified that she wanted to change her name because it “more fully reflects who I am.”
Although her name change is now legal, she will not be able to completely forget about her divorce. Although she has children, they spend one weekend each month with their father through a shared custody agreement. In addition to her $45,600 monthly child support payment, she is also required by law to give her ex $115,000 a month in spousal support.
Clarkson wants to sell the ranch, but Blackstock is able to continue living there. He has to pay her $12,500 monthly while living there.His living situation is only temporary, as he is only legally allowed to live there until June. With time running out, hopefully he has already started looking for a new place to reside.
