The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under the leadership of Elon Musk, has pulled back the curtain on yet another shocking example of reckless government spending—this time exposing a staggering $40 billion in federal credit card transactions over the 2024 fiscal year.

Yes, you read that right. Nearly 4.6 million active government credit cards racked up 90 million transactions—and the American taxpayer is footing the bill.

DOGE made the revelation via a post on X, stating, “The US government currently has ~4.6M active credit cards/accounts, which processed ~90M unique transactions for ~$40B of spend in FY24.”

The department vowed to rein in this waste, adding, “DOGE is working w/ the agencies to simplify the program and reduce admin costs – we will report back in 1 week.”

Musk’s crusade to clean up Washington’s bloated, out-of-control bureaucracy has ignited a firestorm of discussion among conservatives—many of whom are asking the same question: How has this massive fraud been allowed to continue unchecked?

The response from everyday Americans was swift and furious. Many pointed to the sheer excessive size of the federal government as a major problem.

One user posted, “Why do we have so many different departments? All we need is a Department of Defense, Health, Justice, Agriculture, and Energy! That’s about it!”

“There’s a lot of money being spent where illegals are getting more benefits than citizens. That doesn’t make any sense.”
