In a moment that perfectly captured the modern Democratic Party’s descent into chaos and emotional theatrics, House Democrats completely lost control on June 21, 2023, throwing a full-blown tantrum as Republicans voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for peddling lies during the Trump-Russia hoax.
The final vote—213 Republicans in favor, 209 Democrats opposed—was a long-overdue rebuke of Schiff’s repeated abuse of power and manipulation of intelligence to smear President Trump. But rather than show an ounce of accountability, Democrats responded with the maturity of children being told “no” for the first time.
As Schiff moved toward the well of the House chamber, his Democratic colleagues began shouting “Shame! Shame!”—echoing a scene out of a bad cable drama. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, attempting to restore order, stood firm amid the noise, calmly telling the unruly mob, “I have all night.”
And he did. Despite the shrieking, interruptions, and even a reported slur shouted across the chamber (“Jacka—!”), McCarthy moved forward with the censure vote, making clear what Schiff’s real legacy will be: a man who abused his position on the House Intelligence Committee to mislead the nation and pursue a partisan vendetta against President Trump.
“For misleading the American public…” McCarthy began, before being drowned out by boos. He continued, unwavering, “And for conduct unbecoming of an elected member of the House of Representatives, the Representative Adam Schiff will be forthwith to present himself in the well of the House of Representatives for the pronouncement of censure.”
That was apparently too much for Democrats to handle.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), no stranger to embarrassing moments of his own, yelled “It’s pathetic you’re doing this. Pathetic!”—though many Americans would argue the only pathetic thing is that Schiff remained unpunished for so long.
Desperate to deflect, other Democrats tried to change the subject by shouting, “What about Santos?”—as though one controversy excuses another. It was a weak, last-ditch attempt to avoid the reckoning they knew was coming.
GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) summed it up best. Speaking with clarity and conviction, she said the vote was “a clear vote between right and wrong,” not some partisan stunt as the left tried to frame it. “To vote against this censure,” she warned, “is to run away from this opportunity to hold this man accountable… It would betray the people who trusted us and sent us here to do the right thing.”
Of course, Schiff is already spinning the censure into a political badge of honor among the left-wing elite, but the facts remain: he deliberately misled the American people, fueled a baseless narrative, and undermined trust in our institutions.
The real disgrace isn’t the censure—it’s that it took this long to happen.
As Democrats continue to throw fits on the House floor, Republicans are holding the line—defending truth, accountability, and the American people’s right to honest representation. And that’s exactly what voters sent them to Washington to do.
