Fans of Brendan Fraser got a glimpse of the actor in his new part in Darren Aronofsky’s latest film, “The Whale,” as a 600-pound recluse.

On Tuesday, the film’s production company, A24, released a photo of Fraser in his position for the forthcoming drama. The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month.

The story is based on a play by Samuel D. Hunter that follows the life of Charlie, a 600-pound man who goes looking for his estranged adolescent daughter after abandoning his wife and kid for a homosexual partner. Charlie lost weight after developing an eating problem in order to cope with his lover’s death.

Sadie Sink, who plays his 17-year-old daughter, Hong Chau, will be joined by Brandon Micheal Hall in the film. Samantha Morton and Ty Simpkins will also star in the picture along with Fraser. An official release date has yet to be determined.

“It’s gonna be like something you haven’t seen before,” Fraser told Unilad in 2021. while discussing his upcoming role. “That’s really all I can tell you…The wardrobe and costume was extensive, seamless, cumbersome. This is certainly far removed from anything I’ve ever done but not to be coy…I do know it’s going to make a lasting impression.”

Fraser’s latest film, “The Mummy,” marks his first leading role in almost a decade. “The Mummy” star will play the main antagonist in HBO’s “Batgirl” film as Garfield Lynns – the bad guy known as Firefly – in Mart Scorsese’s newest western feature this year.

“The Whale” was highly praised when it premiered on Broadway in 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It won the Drama Desk Award and the Luce Lortel Award for outstanding play, according to the newspaper.
