When Bob Unanue, CEO of Goya Foods, publicly expressed his support for President Trump and the Republican Party, it invoked a fierce response from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She called for her followers to boycott Goya products in retaliation against Unanue’s political alignment. Surprisingly enough though, despite AOC’s encouragement of an entire nation boycotting these goods, sales at Goya remarkably skyrocketed during this period instead!

Unanue made a splash in the news when he offered glowing words of admiration to President Trump on July’s trip to the White House.

“We’re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,” during an address following his gathering with President Trump and other Hispanic officials, CEO Robert Unanue said.

Goya Foods is the foremost Hispanic-owned food organization in America, according to its own assertion. When Unanue praised Trump back in July, many Latinos were appalled since Donald Trump has been regularly disparaging towards the Latino community throughout his time as president.

Following her roundtable discussion with President Trump, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to express her thoughts, “Oh, look, it’s the sound of me Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo.’”

With her focus on sourcing Goya-friendly recipes, she brought attention to Unanue’s comments regarding Trump and their impact on Latinx living in the United States.

Unfortunately for Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, her attempt to boycott Goya Foods did not rouse the following she had anticipated. In contrast, sales of Goya products skyrocketed in response – so much that CEO Robert Unanue named AOC “Employee of the Month” after she encouraged an American boycott on his company’s products!

This Monday on The Michael Berry Show, Unanue reported an impressive surge in sales. He credited Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for the upsurge as she provided plenty of free publicity to his business – so much that he jokingly crowned her “actually our employee of the month”.

“When she boycotted us, our sales actually increased 1,000%, so we gave her an honorary — we never were able to hand it to her — she got employee of the month for bringing attention to Goya and our adobo,” he said.

President Trump might have had a hand in the surge of sales after his tweet, “I love Goya Foods” following his meeting with Unanue. However, it’s been said that Unanue gives credit to the boost in sales to none other than President Trump’s rival – Ocasio-Cortez!

Following a meeting between Trump and the CEO of Goya Foods, his daughter Ivanka began promoting the company on social media. She posted an image of her holding up a can of Goya black beans, encouraging all her followers to buy it.

The public was astonished to learn that the president and his family were backing a product of this nature, as presidents rarely use their authority to aid others in generating profits from merchandise.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez stated that President Trump’s support of Goya foods was a breach of the law which bans any president from “endorsement of any product, service, or enterprise.”

Despite this, Trump and Ivanka aggressively promoted Goya Foods following their meeting.

In a tweet written in Spanish, she said: “If it’s Trump, it has to be corrupt.”
