In what can only be described as a full-blown meltdown, North Carolina’s RINO Senator Thom Tillis took to the Senate floor this week and launched into a bizarre tirade—attacking President Trump, his staff, and the very legislation that could define America’s comeback.
The bill in question? President Trump’s highly anticipated “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping reform package aimed at cutting waste, restoring fiscal sanity, and keeping promises made to the American people. But instead of supporting the conservative agenda he was elected to advance, Tillis went off the rails—screaming about Medicaid, insulting Trump’s advisers, and throwing a tantrum over proposed cuts that he falsely claimed would leave hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians stranded.
On June 29, as the Senate prepared for debate, Tillis grandstanded in dramatic fashion, proclaiming, “What do I tell 663,000 people… when President Trump breaks his promise by pushing them off of Medicaid?” It was classic emotional blackmail—fearmongering dressed up as fiscal concern.
Even more outrageous, Tillis accused the Trump White House of deception. He claimed that when he confronted officials with his so-called “research” on the bill’s Medicaid impact, they admitted he was right and told him his state would have to “make it work.” Unsurprisingly, Tillis didn’t name names—just more anonymous “experts” supposedly pulling the strings behind Trump.
He didn’t stop there. The retiring senator took a cheap shot at the President’s advisers, sarcastically calling them “amateurs” and singling out the administration’s health policy team. “Not Dr. Oz,” he quipped, “I’m talking about White House health care experts.” Apparently, attacking Trump’s team has become a last-ditch pastime for fading moderates.
For a man who has spent years cozying up to establishment Democrats and pushing “bipartisanship” over backbone, this outburst was par for the course. And it didn’t take long for conservatives to call him out.
“Real tough to come out screaming and yelling after you announced you’re too big of a coward to run for reelection,” one conservative account wrote, summing up the reaction of many Trump-aligned Americans who’ve had enough of GOP lawmakers who cave under pressure.
Shortly after his rant, Tillis announced he’s throwing in the towel and won’t seek another term. In his farewell statement, he patted himself on the back for being one of the last “independent thinkers” in Washington—a strange way to describe someone who just torched the most transformative conservative legislation in years and fled the scene.
Tillis wrote, “It’s become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species.” Translation: The America First movement is alive and well, and establishment Republicans like Thom Tillis are no longer welcome.
With Tillis exiting stage left, North Carolina conservatives will now have the opportunity to replace him with someone who actually supports the agenda they voted for—someone who fights *for* Trump’s vision, not against it. And after this embarrassing display, that change can’t come soon enough.
