The Left is melting down — again — this time over a joke. President Donald Trump’s lighthearted remarks about “running in 2028” have sent Democrats and their media allies into a full-blown panic, proving once more that humor is lost on America’s woke elite.
During Friday night’s edition of CNN NewsNight (October 24), host Abby Phillip launched into a fiery tirade after Trump playfully teased the idea of a third term — a running gag he’s used for years to drive the Left insane. The meltdown came after former White House adviser Steve Bannon joked in The Economist that “Trump will get a third term,” sending the network’s anchors into hysterics.
“He’s going to get a third term,” Bannon said. “Trump is going to be president in ’28… there’s a plan, and President Trump will be the president in ’28.”
Of course, this wasn’t a real announcement — just classic Trump-world trolling. Even Lara Trump laughed off the hysteria, telling Fox Business host Stuart Varney, “Once Donald Trump ends his term — and we love those ‘Trump 2028’ hats — it’s going to be JD Vance for the next eight years. And that terrifies Democrats.”
But CNN couldn’t resist clutching their pearls. Abby Phillip, visibly irritated, demanded to know why anyone — especially Trump allies — would joke about such a thing. “Why do you think Steve Bannon keeps saying this? And why does Trump keep putting the ‘2028’ hat on the desk?” she pressed.
CNN’s token conservative, Scott Jennings, tried to inject some sanity into the segment. Calmly, he reminded Phillip that the entire thing was a joke — a deliberate jab at Trump’s critics. “He keeps the hats and stuff because he’s trolling his opponents,” Jennings said. “He knows how crazy it drives them when he does these kinds of things.”
He went on to make the obvious point that Trump’s “third term” talk isn’t serious. “I just know what the Constitution says,” Jennings said. “I know what most Republicans would think about it. I know what the Supreme Court would do about it. So I don’t really think this is serious.”
That explanation wasn’t enough for Phillip, who demanded Jennings “go on record” and denounce the imaginary scenario. “If there was a real attempt to give Trump a third term, would you be for it or against it?” she pressed. Jennings, amused, humored her: “I’m long on the record of opposing violating the 22nd Amendment.”
The exchange highlighted the Left’s chronic inability to distinguish between jokes and reality — a hallmark of the post-2016 media. CNN’s outrage theater, as usual, was in full swing: treating a Trump joke like a constitutional crisis while ignoring the real problems facing Americans, like inflation, crime, and border chaos.
Even The Economist, which published Bannon’s original remarks, admitted that MAGA ideas are “gaining traction across America and beyond.” That, not Trump’s sense of humor, is what truly terrifies the Left.
Steve Bannon insists that Donald Trump will be president again for a third term in 2028—and that America needs him to.

In the end, the entire episode only underscored Trump’s genius for triggering his opponents. A simple hat on a desk was enough to send CNN into meltdown mode — and that’s exactly how he likes it.
As one conservative commentator quipped, “If Trump really wanted to drive them insane, he’d sell ‘Trump 2028’ hats by the millions — just to keep them talking.”
