In yet another example of the media twisting the truth to protect violent leftist agitators, Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino is being smeared by liberal outlets after he was attacked during an anti-ICE riot in Chicago — and defended himself and his agents with tear gas.

The corporate media, led by CNN, rushed to portray Bovino as the aggressor, falsely claiming he “attacked peaceful protesters.” But the facts tell a very different story — one that reveals just how far the left is willing to go to demonize law enforcement while excusing political violence from their own side.

According to reports from the Department of Homeland Security, Bovino and his agents were stationed in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood when a violent mob of anti-ICE demonstrators turned on them. Protesters hurled objects, including rocks, at the federal officers. Bovino himself was struck in the head by a rock — a potentially deadly attack — before he responded by deploying a single tear gas canister to disperse the rioters.

Far from being an unprovoked attack, Bovino’s actions were entirely justified. When an officer is assaulted with a dangerous weapon, using non-lethal crowd control measures like tear gas is not only appropriate — it’s expected. But CNN and other left-leaning outlets conveniently omitted that crucial fact, instead framing the story as if Bovino had simply lashed out for “fun.”

The distortion was so blatant that even DHS officials and conservative commentators called them out publicly.

“CNN says BP Chief Bovino potentially violated an order in Chicago barring the use of chemical agents against riotous crowds without warning,” the watchdog account *Media Lies* wrote on X. “They left out important details, including DHS stating that multiple warnings were given, and Bovino was struck in the head by a rock.”

Eric Daugherty, a conservative commentator, was even more blunt: “Border Commander Greg Bovino has INFURIATED the left by throwing a tear gas canister at leftist rioters who threw ROCKS at Bovino and his men in Chicago. He did NOTHING wrong. He’s standing with his men and is absolutely crushing it right now!”

Even DHS Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin stepped in to correct the record, posting, “Of course @CNN refuses to mention rioters hit Chief Bovino in the head with a rock, which could have been deadly.”

Despite the clear facts, a coalition of leftist activists, local clergy, and media allies filed a court complaint accusing Bovino of “apparently throwing tear gas into a crowd without justification.” Their filing conveniently ignored the rock attack — and the DHS statement confirming that multiple verbal warnings were issued before the canister was deployed.

It’s a familiar pattern: left-wing rioters assault law enforcement, the media erases their violence, and the officers defending themselves are turned into villains. The same script played out during the 2020 “mostly peaceful” riots that torched American cities — and now it’s being recycled to attack one of the few law enforcement leaders still willing to stand firm against chaos.

Chief Bovino’s message is simple: he will protect his men and the rule of law — no matter how hard the left and their media allies try to destroy him for it.
