New data out of the White House is delivering a reality check the political left has tried to deny for years: enforcing immigration law works—and American families are already reaping the benefits. According to figures released by the Trump administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportations are driving down housing costs by easing the pressure created by years of unchecked illegal immigration.
The numbers tell a striking story. In December, home listing prices declined year over year in 14 of the 20 major metro areas with the largest illegal migrant populations. Meanwhile, the only cities still seeing modest increases were so-called “sanctuary cities,” where left-wing officials continue to shield illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement and invite the very pressures driving costs higher.
The White House’s official Rapid Response 47 account summed it up bluntly: “Mass deportations = lower housing costs for Americans.” The post added, “FACT: In 14 of the top 20 metro areas with the largest illegal migrant populations, home list prices DECLINED year-over-year in December. The three metro areas that saw modest price increases are all ‘sanctuary cities.’”
Rent prices are following the same trend. In cities like San Antonio, rents have dropped sharply after a glut of apartments—many hastily built during the Biden-era migrant surge—sat empty once deportations began. In contrast, leftist strongholds like Seattle saw rents tick upward, a predictable outcome of policies that prioritize illegal immigrants over working citizens.
Trump administration officials aren’t mincing words about what’s happening. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent pointed directly to the previous administration’s failures, saying rents are down because “the mass unfettered immigration… pushed up rents, especially for working Americans.” HUD Secretary Scott Turner echoed that assessment, noting that illegal immigration squeezed supply and sent prices soaring.
Vice President JD Vance, who was relentlessly attacked by the media for raising these concerns during the 2024 campaign, put it plainly: “The connection between illegal immigration and skyrocketing housing costs is as clear as day.” Once again, Trump and his allies were right—and the data now proves it.
Immigration experts agree this is basic economics. Kevin Lynn, founder of U.S. Tech Worker, explained it simply: “When you crack down on immigration, legal and illegal, housing costs naturally drop. Supply and demand, baby.” He pointed to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania—once dubbed the “refugee capital of America”—where landlords are now advertising “First Three Months Free” to attract tenants. “That’s what happens,” Lynn said, “when you take the immigrants out of the equation.”
Yet even as costs fall and Americans finally catch a break, the radical left remains stubbornly committed to open borders. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson issued a tone-deaf response, assuring illegal immigrants, “This is your city,” while refusing to acknowledge the damage these policies have done to housing affordability for citizens.
Conservatives online were quick to celebrate the results. “Knew this would happen,” one commenter wrote. “Illegals have become big business for real estate investors. Once they leave, the American dream will become more attainable.” Another added, “JD Vance said this in 2024 and Democrats and the legacy media tried to silence him.”
The lesson is unmistakable. Fewer illegal immigrants means lower housing costs, more availability, and renewed hope for American families. Under President Trump, common sense is back—and the American Dream is finally becoming reachable again.
