Tragically, a 2-year-old boy from New York perished due to starvation when his father, David Conde Sr., who suffered from heart disease passed away and left him alone. Nine months after their deaths were discovered in the Geneva home of Mr. Conde and his son, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office released an autopsy report confirming this heartbreaking incident as their official cause of death.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the father had passed away from natural causes due to heart disease prior. Unfortunately, his son succumbed later on as a result of malnourishment. “It is believed Mr. Conde passed away first and the child was not able to obtain any nourishment after his father passed,” deputies stated.
Sheriff’s Lt. Dave Cirencione anticipated the tragic outcome of this case, as investigators had expected it all along. “Once we ruled out carbon monoxide [as the cause of death], we sadly knew this was a likely cause,” Cirencione said. “This is a very, very sad case.”
On February 15th, 2022 deputies were summoned to the Condes’ apartment after family members raised concerns about not hearing or seeing either the father or son in over a week. When they arrived at the scene, no distress was present on their bodies nor any trauma as they found both of them peacefully together in one bedroom.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, David Conde Sr. became a guardian of his son shortly after he was born, with little visible involvement from the mother. Sadly, an obituary revealed that even after numerous surgeries and months of rehabilitation due to an undisclosed medical issue, young David had only just learned how to walk when he passed away.
This tragedy serves as a reminder for us all to keep an eye on our loved ones, especially those who may be struggling with health issues or caring for young children. Taking the time to ensure that every child is sufficiently cared and supervised should never go underestimated. Nevertheless, it’s still heartbreaking when we think of infants being left alone without any protection – unable to fend for themselves in the world. The compassion within each one of us can make sure this doesn’t happen again, so let’s stay alert and offer help where necessary.
