Minnesota’s far-left Governor Tim Walz is scrambling to cover his tracks after openly celebrating Tesla’s stock decline while the company is under siege from violent extremists. Walz, a proud member of the anti-business, anti-Musk brigade, thought it was funny to cheer on financial losses for a company that employs over 80,000 Americans. But after facing fierce backlash, he’s now desperately trying to spin his comments as a “joke.”
The controversy began during a town hall event in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on March 19, when Walz smugly admitted that he enjoys watching Tesla’s stock price drop. As Tesla faces domestic terror attacks—primarily targeting its vehicles and dealerships—Walz took a cheap shot, saying he gets a “boost” from seeing the company’s struggles. The audience, predictably packed with leftist radicals, erupted in cheers.
“Some of you know this. On the iPhone, they’ve got that little stock app. I added Tesla to it to give me a little boost during the day—$225 and dropping,” Walz sneered. Then, in an even pettier move, he encouraged Tesla owners to deface their vehicles, adding, “And if you own one, we’re not blaming you. You can take dental floss and pull the Tesla thing off.”

Unsurprisingly, the backlash was swift. Business leaders and political figures alike condemned Walz for his reckless, anti-business rhetoric. Even CNN contributor and entrepreneur Shermichael Singleton couldn’t believe the stupidity on display.
“First of all, Tim Walz is a complete moron,” Singleton said bluntly. “I have to be very honest, and I’m not surprised why the American people did not choose him. Nothing against the vice president. With that said, Elon Musk employs 80,000-plus Americans.”
He then pointed out the obvious—when Tesla’s stock drops, real working-class Americans suffer. “Most of them are working-class people. If this stock decline continues, what happens? At some point, Tesla might have to downsize. Most of those employees probably vote Democrat, at least some of them. So now you’re impacting people who likely share your worldview just because you have a personal grudge against Elon Musk.”
Realizing he had walked into a PR disaster, Walz frantically tried to play it off as a joke during another town hall in Rochester, Minnesota, on March 22. But instead of issuing an actual apology, he lashed out at his critics, snapping, “This guy [Musk] bugs me in a way that’s probably unhealthy. I have to be careful about being a smarta. I was making a joke.”
Then came the predictable liberal talking points: when in doubt, blame conservatives. Walz whined that Republicans just don’t understand humor, saying, “These people have no sense of humor. They are the most literal people.”
Here’s the reality: Walz’s comments weren’t a joke. They were a glimpse into the Left’s mindset—vindictive, anti-business, and eager to destroy anything or anyone who refuses to fall in line with their radical agenda. Instead of leading, Walz is openly celebrating economic decline and job losses, all because of his personal vendetta against Musk.
America deserves better than petty, anti-capitalist politicians who put their own grudges ahead of the livelihoods of hard-working Americans. And if Walz thinks he can laugh off his incompetence, he’s in for a rude awakening.
