The original series followed Betty White and Bea Arthur as they lived together in Miami, Florida after retirement. Regina King and Tracee Ellis Ross will star in the revival.
The original program aired for seven seasons. It focused on four white women who lived together in Miami and were in their “golden years.” They didn’t have to work or attend to many boring household duties because they were in their “golden years.” The show was a success among viewers for all seven seasons from 1985 to 1992. This retelling of the series will “reimagine” it from a Black standpoint, giving the concept new life.
Fans of The Golden Girls, on the other hand, will be pleased with this revival. Instead of resurrecting the program in its entirety, however, it appears that the reinvention will be a one-night special broadcast on Zoom.
On Instagram, Shonda Rhimes announced the revival of The Golden Girls with some of her followers. According to Shonda Rhimes’ Twitter account, it looks like she’ll be reprising her role as Betty White’s character, Rose Nylund. Regina King will play Dorothy Zbornak, the part that Bea Arthur made legendary in real life.
The role of Devereaux will be played by Sanaa Lathan (Nip/Tuck), who will portray Balance Devereaux. Alfre Woodard, who appeared in 12 Years a Slave, will play the part of Sophia Petrillo.
The special will air on Zoom in partnership with Color of Change. Zoom has seen greater success following the epidemic, according to Daily Mail. According to Daily Mail, Color of Change is the country’s biggest online racial justice organization.
We don’t know when details will be revealed. The actresses may utilize the show’s original script. It’s also conceivable that they’ll get their own completely new script. The second option would certainly draw a larger audience.
Her followers flooded her Instagram account with messages when she announced the news. It appears that people are looking forward to seeing how The Golden Girls is re-imagined from a Black perspective, as they were enthusiastic about the event happening.
