The whole world gasped when news broke that Alec Baldwin had accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust. Alec Baldwin isn’t a beloved figure by many, having played former President Trump on Saturday Night Live in a harsh manner – but no one ever imagined him to be a murderer. However, when Baldwin discovered that the prop gun he was using was actually loaded and dangerous, he shot Hutchins.
The father of the slain girl has now come forward to speak about the tragedy, including what it means for him and his family. Anatoly Androsovych, the father of the victim, charged that Alec Baldwin must “be held partially responsible” for his daughter’s death since he was the one who pulled the trigger that killed her.
“I can’t understand the behavior of Alec,” Androsovych told a newspaper. “Why did he sweep out his tweets when it became clear the shooting was on rehearsal?”
The victim’s father continued, “And why did he fire the shot during the preparations? The revolver is the type of gun which doesn’t shoot before the trigger is pressed, and Alec is partially guilty for causing that shot.”
It is clear that the victim’s father is grasping at answers to a question that is just beyond comprehension.
“It is clear to me Baldwin fired the shot from his hand, so it’s hard for me to understand how he cannot be held partly responsible for my daughter’s death,” Androsovych stated. Pavlo worries that Halyna’s son, Andros, who is only nine years old, will never “ever fully recover” from the trauma.
“Andros is slowly getting back to life, but this is a huge blow for all of us.”
After the shooting of Hutchins, Baldwin went on Twitter to clarify his side of the story. Despite claims that his statement was “tone-deaf,” James Baldwin wanted to assure his followers that he did not intend to kill the film’s Director of Photography. When the weapon fired, he also injured the movie’s director.
“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred,” tweeted Baldwin.
He continued, “I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
Androsovych was added to the lawsuit after claiming that the film’s armory team gave Baldwin a loaded weapon, thus he did not “hold Alec Baldwin responsible — it is the responsibility of the props people who handle the guns.”
Whatever happens as a result of this tragedy, it is an extremely tragic accident. Clearly, Baldwin did not intend to harm Hutchins or the film’s director. When using weapons on the set of films, moviemakers must exercise extreme caution.
