If there’s anything that can unravel the progressive left faster than their own policies, it’s when their internal contradictions come to light. And the latest spat between Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) over the Israel-Hamas conflict has delivered the perfect storm of infighting for conservatives to watch.
It all began with AOC’s latest tirade against Israel, a familiar refrain for the far-left squad member. In a fiery tweet, she lashed out at both Israel and the Biden administration, accusing them of enabling what she called “genocide” against the Palestinian people. According to her, the actions of Israeli forces in Gaza—defending themselves from Hamas terrorism—are tantamount to war crimes. With no mention of Hamas’ role in terrorizing civilians, Ocasio-Cortez predictably sided with the radical left’s anti-Israel narrative.
She wrote: “The horrors unfolding in northern Gaza are the result of a completely unrestrained Netanyahu gov, fully armed by the Biden admin while food aid is blocked and patients are bombed in hospitals. This is a genocide of Palestinians. The US must stop enabling it. Arms embargo now.”
This unhinged commentary sparked outrage from those who still have a sense of reality when it comes to Hamas’ terror tactics. Enter Sen. John Fetterman, who, while no conservative hero, at least understands that Hamas is a terrorist organization responsible for the current bloodshed. Fetterman fired back at AOC, making it clear that the real culprit in Gaza is not Israel but Hamas, which consistently uses civilians and hospitals as human shields. He tweeted, “The tragedy in Gaza is 100% on Hamas. Stop using civilians and hospitals as shields, surrender, and release all remaining hostages—and this ends.”
Rather than engage in a thoughtful debate or acknowledge that Hamas might be the bad actor here, AOC doubled down, accusing Fetterman of some sort of political stunt. She shot back with a petty reply: “I dunno man. I care about little kids dying. I care about human rights. I care that billions of US tax dollars’ worth of weapons are carrying out unspeakable atrocities. I care enough for us to do better. Hope this bleak dunk attempt gets you whatever it is you’re going for.”
Yes, folks, the humanitarian champion that is AOC wants us to believe she’s solely motivated by compassion. Never mind the billions of dollars Hamas siphons into rockets and tunnels while holding its own people hostage in a never-ending cycle of violence. And don’t expect her to address the fact that Israel, surrounded by hostile forces, has to defend itself against brutal attacks aimed at exterminating its existence.
But Fetterman wasn’t done. The next day, he delivered a knock-out punch of sorts, congratulating Israel on taking out a key Hamas terrorist leader, Yahya Sinwar. Fetterman praised Israel for eliminating a man responsible for the heinous October 7 massacre, tweeting: “I want to salute Israel and celebrate the elimination of Yahya Sinwar—a necessary move for any future enduring peace. Eliminating the mastermind of the 10/7 massacre is the definition of justice served. My vote and my voice for Israel will not waver.”
As usual, AOC avoided addressing Hamas’ culpability and instead retweeted liberal pundits praising Kamala Harris for her rhetoric on the conflict. It seems the left is more focused on looking “woke” than actually confronting the reality of terrorism.
This intra-party bickering showcases the growing rift within the Democratic Party. While Fetterman attempts to straddle the line between the party’s moderate wing and its radical base, AOC and her squad continue to push extremist positions that undermine Israel and ignore Hamas’ terrorism. Conservatives, take note—this is the left’s future, and it’s tearing itself apart from the inside.
