If you think that smoking only ruins your body from the inside, you would be sadly mistaken. Your face also shows the unappealing results from a tobacco habit, because it physically ages you in several ways.
Ohio researchers studied the differences in the facial features of nonsmokers and their twins who smoked. It’s a fascinating compilation and one that will have you thinking twice, before you light another one up.
The study was conducted by the Department of Plastic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University for twins between ages 18 and 78.
Doctors carefully examined the photos and assigned scores to the facial features of 79 sets of twins. They discovered that the twin who lit up appeared older 57% of the time, compared to the twin who didn’t smoke.
The study also involved twins who both smoked and found that the one who maintained the habit at least five years longer than the other, appeared older more than 63% of the time.
That clearly shows, that in merely five years of cigarettes, smoking takes its toll on the face.
The journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery publsihed the results. Dr. Bahman Guyuron had led the study and concluded that, smoking damages the collagen in our skin layers and ruins blood circulation affecting the skin.
Nicotine doesn’t do the complexion any favors either; it thins the skin, unfortunately. Please check out these smoking and non-smoking twins here at YouTube. The proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes.
