Multiple births may be hazardous. They put both the mother and her children through a lot of stress. But in 2015, Tim and Bethani Webb made history by having the one-in-a-million birth of their child in Hythe, Alberta, on the northern border with British Columbia. Their community Hythe is located in Alberta, just across the border from British Columbia. Despite their intention to wait some time before starting a family, they were unable to resist temptation, and Bethani discovered she was expecting three months after they married.
After visiting the doctor, however, Bethani learned that her pregnancy was anything but typical. She witnessed four tiny lives developing within her when it was time for the ultrasound. And at that knowledge, she blossomed with love for the unborn children yet to be born.
The Webbs were under a lot of strain when they discovered they were expecting four babies. They had to prepare their home for the arrival of four new individuals. They had to stock up on diapers and other necessities as a result of this. Aside from the financial costs associated with having quads, the Webbs also had to prepare psychologically.
Bethani was just 22 years old. She also had to undergo a medical examination. Now that she was responsible for four unborn babies, she needed more relaxation. She modified her eating habits and increased her water intake. Everything she did was for the benefit of her child. Furthermore, her neighborhood pitched in. As a result of the Webbs’ additions of four people to the town of 900, they raised the population significantly.
Neighbors and friends pitched in to assist the young couple with the pregnancy expenses, and several launched fundraising efforts.
When the news was confirmed, Bethani discovered that the quadruplets were all girls. This was a blessing and wonderment, as the likelihood of all four of them being born at the same time was extremely unlikely for young Bethani and her husband. She had always wanted to be a mother to little girls.
Pregnancy with four babies is not simple. Bethani had trouble sleeping, as four pairs of feet kept kicking her at all hours of the night. She tried to eat enough food, but with four mouths to feed, it was difficult. She also attempted to stay healthy during this time.
Finally, her anticipated C-section day arrived. It was May 6, 2016. And it would turn out to be a one-in-a-million occurrence.
When all four infants were brought into the examination room, the doctors and nurses were stunned by what they saw. The quadruplets were identical. It’s something so uncommon that you might as well play the Powerball.
Now the third generation is busy trying to keep everyone happy.
“They’re all doing really well,” Bethani said to TODAY Parents. “They’re all good.”
She also came clean about the difficulty she has telling her children apart.
“At this point, I’m not able to tell them apart,” Bethani stated. “We’re going to paint their toenails and assign them each a color.”
Because they were born tiny, they would all sleep in the same crib. This made things simpler, but it was also more difficult to distinguish them.
“Right now, they’re all in one crib, which is nice. Before they were in their incubators, they were all separate, and they definitely had some separation anxiety.”
