In a chilling display of just how far the moral decay in America has gone, two boys — just 7 and 9 years old — were caught on camera in a dangerous armed standoff with deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico.

Yes, you read that correctly. Grade-schoolers with a loaded gun were engaged in a standoff with law enforcement. And instead of outrage over how we’ve allowed this to happen, liberal circles are already shifting blame to everything but the root of the problem: broken homes, a rotting culture, and progressive policies that excuse criminal behavior at every level — even among children.

The incident, which took place on February 16, could have easily turned into a national tragedy. Sheriff John Allen said it clearly: had the gun not jammed, “our deputies could have taken deadly force.” And of course, had that happened, we all know how the radical left and their media allies would’ve spun it — cops labeled as villains for doing their jobs.

What’s worse is that these boys weren’t just playing with a weapon. They were taught how to use it. Let that sink in.

While authorities are protecting the identities of the children and their parents “out of respect for the family,” Sheriff Allen left the door open for possible criminal charges under the so-called Bennie Hargrove Gun Safety Act — a law that punishes adults for negligent gun storage. But let’s be honest: holding parents accountable shouldn’t be controversial. If your child is brandishing a loaded gun in public, you failed — and the law should reflect that.

In today’s America, too many in power are more interested in excusing criminal behavior than confronting it. Sheriff Allen’s comments about the kids’ brain development and mental health reflect that troubling mindset. “They’re 7 and 9 years old,” he said, before reminding the public about how the brain’s frontal lobe is still developing — as if that excuses this kind of dangerous behavior.

He continued, “Arresting people isn’t the only way out of this crisis of juvenile crime.” But here’s a reality check: enabling lawlessness doesn’t solve crime — it breeds it.

Mental health expert Michael Lucero chimed in with his own take, suggesting that navigating the system is difficult even for professionals. But maybe — just maybe — this isn’t a systems problem. It’s a family problem, a discipline problem, and a culture problem.

The public agrees. After footage of the standoff was posted online, the comment section exploded with justified outrage. One viewer nailed it: “That’s not normal behavior from kids that age! Talk about dropping the ball. Those parents should be investigated!” Another added, “This is a massive parenting failure. The cops did everything they could.”

And they’re right. This isn’t about gun control, or brain development, or complex “systems.” It’s about a culture that has abandoned discipline, replaced responsibility with victimhood, and left children to fend for themselves in chaos.

Until we restore accountability in the home — and in our laws — scenes like this won’t be the exception. They’ll be the new normal.

And that should terrify us all.
