This week, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) made headlines by proposing crucial legislation aimed at safeguarding the integrity of U.S. citizenship. Cotton’s bill seeks to prevent the children of illegal immigrants, foreign terrorists, and foreign spies from receiving birthright citizenship—a loophole he argues has been exploited for far too long.

“Criminals and terrorists have no right to take advantage of our citizenship laws for their own gain. This bill will protect United States citizenship and ensure it cannot be given under false pretenses,” Cotton told Breitbart News. His proposed amendment to Section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act aims to clarify that individuals born to alien parents unlawfully present in the U.S., those here for diplomatic purposes, or those engaged in hostile operations on American soil, will not automatically receive U.S. citizenship.

Throughout President Biden’s tenure, the southern border has seen a surge in illegal crossings, with estimates indicating that millions of illegal immigrants have entered the United States. Projections suggest that by the end of 2024, the Biden administration could face over 10 million migrant encounters at the U.S. border.

In a recent Fox News interview, Senator Cotton sharply criticized the Biden administration for its handling of the border crisis. He lambasted a recent executive order by Biden, calling it a belated and inadequate response to a problem that has been festering for years. “This plan is a joke. I would say it’s like closing the barn door after the horses are already out,” Cotton remarked. He continued, “Four years ago, Joe Biden invited migrants from all across the third world to come to America, and if they could get here, they could stay. But it’s not even closing the barn door. Joe Biden is now saying to the cartels and to potential terrorists that as long as there’s not more than 75,000 illegal aliens crossing our border a month, then you’re still welcome to come.”

Cotton didn’t hold back in suggesting that Biden’s sudden shift in border policy is a desperate attempt to address his plummeting poll numbers amidst growing frustration among Americans over uncontrolled illegal immigration. “The only acceptable number of illegal immigrants crossing our border at any period is zero,” Cotton asserted. “Conveniently, Joe Biden has just discovered the error of his ways and new powers five months before an election. This is not about the crisis at the border; it’s about the crisis of Joe Biden’s polling numbers versus Donald Trump.”

With a heightened risk of terrorism due to the unsecured border, Cotton warned that Biden’s recent executive actions might be an attempt to preempt potential threats. “Part of the reason he’s issuing this order today, I suspect, is to get ahead of any potential terrorist attack against American citizens over the next five months, if it happens as a result of his open border,” Cotton speculated. He emphasized the urgent need to close the border immediately, drawing a stark contrast with the border policies during President Trump’s administration. “That’s what we had when President Trump was in office. That’s what we will have when he’s back in office,” he concluded.

Senator Cotton’s proposed legislation and his outspoken criticism of the current administration highlight a growing concern among many Americans about the state of the nation’s immigration policies. As the border crisis continues to escalate, it remains to be seen how these issues will influence the political landscape and voter sentiment in the upcoming elections.
