While speeding along at 40 mph, 26-year-old Farah Cacanindin gave birth to her baby in the back of a taxi. She went into labor suddenly while trying to get to the hospital and managed to deliver her baby herself. Now, Farah is coming forward to express her disbelief at receiving a cleaning bill from the taxi company totaling over $80 for giving birth in the back of their cab.
After her routine pregnancy checkup, Farah got into a taxi and went into labor. In the back of the taxicab, she had to give birth while journeying home to Buckinghamshire property in the United Kingdom. Despite the mess that childbirth can make, everything went smoothly for her when she gave birth to her baby girl Naia in the back of a cab.
The baby was born in the cab, but the driver took Farah and her newborn to Stoke Mandeville Hospital so that she could receive care from professionals. The taxi driver called ahead to warn them of their imminent arrival.
After Farah gave birth to her baby girl Naia in the back of a taxi, she wrapped her newborn in her jacket. Despite the unorthodox circumstances under which she was born, Naia was healthy and happy. The mother and newborn baby were both healthy when they got to the hospital, so they were allowed to go back home to Buckinghamshire.
Farah was given a hefty bill from the Arrow Taxis company; she was charged thirty pounds for the drive to the hospital and an additional sixty pounds for the cleaning fee because she gave birth in their cab.
The new mother was aware that she made a mess in the back of the taxi, but felt it unfair to have to pay for clean-up given it was an out-of-the-blue and uncontrollable situation.
Farah stated, “I understand that I did make a mess but it’s a bit cheeky to have charged me. It was the quickest labor ever. My waters broke five minutes into the journey. The driver asked if I wanted him to pull over but I said to keep going as I believed I would make it before she was born.”
To make matters worse, Farah can still see the cab a few blocks down the road from her house in where she gave birth to Naia. The car seems to be just fine after being cleaned professionally following the birth that occurred in its backseat.
