In a rare moment of clarity on CNN, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) laid out what many Americans already know but the mainstream media refuses to report: the Biden-era welfare system is being exploited, and Republicans are finally doing something about it.
Appearing on CNN’s *State of the Union* on Sunday, May 25, Johnson defended the GOP’s new spending bill—describing it as a “big, beautiful” piece of legislation aimed at restoring sanity to Medicaid and other federal programs plagued by abuse and corruption.
Contrary to the left’s hysterical talking points, the bill does **not** cut Medicaid for Americans. What it does do—according to Speaker Johnson—is block **over 1.4 million** illegal aliens from continuing to siphon off taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits they are not legally entitled to receive in the first place.
“We are not cutting Medicaid in this package,” Johnson said bluntly. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there about this.”
That misinformation is being eagerly pushed by the usual suspects—Democrats and their media allies—who are conveniently ignoring that federal law *already* prohibits illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid. The problem? Under Biden’s disastrous open border policies, that law is being openly defied.
“Medicaid is not intended for non-U.S. citizens,” Johnson said. “It’s intended for the most vulnerable populations of Americans, which is pregnant women and young single mothers, the disabled, the elderly.”
In other words, it’s a program designed to help *Americans*—not foreign nationals who entered the country illegally and are now reaping the benefits of our broken welfare state.
The bill doesn’t stop there. Johnson revealed another scandal quietly draining resources from deserving citizens: **nearly 5 million able-bodied Americans**—primarily young men—are refusing to work and instead living off programs like Medicaid.
“You’re talking about 4.8 million able-bodied workers, young men, for example, who are on Medicaid and not working,” he explained. “They are choosing not to work when they can.”
Let that sink in. Millions of perfectly healthy adults are freeloading on a system meant to support the truly vulnerable. And Democrats are fighting to keep that broken status quo in place.
“That is called fraud,” Johnson said. “They are cheating the system.”
It’s a message that’s long overdue. After four years of watching illegal immigrants flood the border, criminals released onto the streets, and welfare programs weaponized against the working class, Republicans are finally stepping up to protect the American taxpayer.
And predictably, Democrats are having a meltdown.
Senator Chuck Schumer and the left-wing press would have Americans believe that Speaker Johnson is “cutting Medicaid.” What they won’t tell you is that the only people losing access under this bill are those **who were never supposed to be on the program to begin with**—illegal aliens and fraudulent leeches abusing a system they didn’t pay into.
As Johnson made clear: “We’re preserving the resources for those who need it most.”
It’s not just a spending bill. It’s a message to every American who plays by the rules, works hard, and expects their government to do the same: help is finally on the way.
