### Disney Cancels Liver Lips McGrowl: Another Step in Its Woke Agenda
The Walt Disney Company is once again bowing to political correctness by axing the long-time Disney World character Liver Lips McGrowl. After 50 years of entertaining guests at the world-famous theme park, the character is being renamed to avoid offending alcoholics, highlighting Disney’s relentless push to align with a progressive agenda.
Liver Lips McGrowl, a fixture in the popular “Country Bear Jamboree” at Magic Kingdom, will reappear under a new name after a seven-month hiatus. This change, set to take effect when the attraction reopens this Wednesday, has sparked significant criticism and raised questions about Disney’s priorities.
The term “liver lips” refers to the damaging effects of excessive alcohol consumption on the liver. Critics argue that Disney’s decision to retire the character’s name is yet another example of the company’s overreach into social and cultural issues, pandering to a hypersensitive minority at the expense of its broader audience.
Clown World, a well-known account on X that frequently critiques progressive cultural trends, highlighted the change: “Disney World removes Liver Lips McGrowl from the Country Bear Jamboree after 50 years, claiming he could offend alcoholics.” The backlash was immediate, with one user commenting, “Disney is dead! They have completely lost their way! They have been driving away families which made them successful in the first place. Disney’s political activism, bad story writing, and horrible content has damaged the brand beyond repair. It’s been fun to watch them fail lol.”
Disney’s increasing involvement in U.S. politics and the ongoing culture war has indeed sparked substantial controversy. The entertainment giant has taken stances on political issues, such as opposing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ efforts to protect parental rights in classrooms, which has alienated many conservative fans. The backlash against Disney’s progressive agenda is reflected in their recent financial losses.
The American Tribune previously reported that Disney lost nearly $900 million on its recent theatrical releases. Conservatives have blamed these losses on the company’s insistence on politicizing its content. Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly has been particularly vocal about Disney’s “woke movie flops.”
“Apparently, there’s an analysis out there showing that films like Lightyear, in which they decided to make Buzz Lightyear gay, and The Little Mermaid, which is now woke… Elemental, one of the ones that includes a non-binary character, had one of the worst openings ever. Worst opening weekend in company history. We could go down the list,” Kelly stated.
She added that consumers are turned off by this content: “The people are not buying this content. They don’t want this content.” Kelly further claimed that companies are realizing that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are not compatible with a strong business model. “Bit by bit, all these media companies are eliminating and big, big tech companies are eliminating their heads of diversity because it’s just a wasted position where somebody just glorifies their wokeness and tries to lecture, so it’s failing.”
Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger defended the company amid the conservative backlash, maintaining that entertaining its audiences is the number one priority. “I’ve been preaching this for a long time at the company before I left and since I came back that our No. 1 goal is to entertain. I think, like, the term woke is thrown around rather liberally, no pun intended in that regard. I think a lot of people don’t even understand really what it means,” Iger said.
As Disney continues to grapple with its identity amidst these cultural battles, the decision to retire Liver Lips McGrowl is seen by many as another step in the wrong direction. Whether this move will help or hurt the brand remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Disney’s efforts to appease a progressive agenda are driving a wedge between the company and its traditional fan base.
