Billy Graham, America’s foremost evangelist, is still hard at work preaching the word of God at age 98. In a series of articles he has articulated his belief in the statements found in the Bible which describe the character of Satan as a real person with a well defined agenda to harm people. He stated that terrorism, racism and injustice are evidence of Satan’s existence.
Mr. Graham’s description of Satan as a “real person…a real personality” does not conform to the beliefs held by the majority of Americans, according to a 2016 Gallop poll on the topic.
While about 90 percent of Americans said they believe God exists, only 61 percent believe Satan is real. The same survey asked about belief in the existence of angels, heaven and hell, and found that acceptance of these Biblical concepts are also lower than they were in 2007
The self-declared purpose of Mr. Graham’s articles is to warn people not to buy into Satan’s lie that he does not exist. He cited several passages in the Bible that refer to Satan and describe him as a “murderer (with)…no truth in him.” He also said that the Bible describes Satan as God’s enemy who was defeated by Jesus Christ, who the Bible says died for humanity and then rose from the dead.
Mr. Graham encouraged readers not to fall for the lies Satan tells but to trust in Jesus Christ instead.
