Now that the year is drawing to a close, we can’t help but discuss doomsday predictions and Nostradamus has a knack for leaving us feeling overwhelmed. My dears, no one does gloom quite like him!

The 16th-century maverick, Nostradamus (sometimes referred to as “Nos if you’re nasty!”), was a multi-faceted figure who has been credited with predicting countless significant events throughout history. Among these are the Great Fire of London in 1666 and Adolf Hitler’s rise to power. More recently, he is said to have foretold the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and even COVID-19 pandemic – though not without controversy!

While his predictions are sometimes accurate, more often than not he misses the mark; our man’s prophecies tend to lean towards destruction and disaster.

Dubbed as the “prophet of doom,” Nostradamus’ gloomy outlook is thought to be shaped by his heavy study and absorption of Biblical writings, combined with the tragedy he faced after losing his wife and children due to a hazardous illness. Apparently unable to cure those closest to him, it appears that in response he opted for cautioning others about forthcoming disaster through his predictions of calamity.

In 1555, Nostradamus published his iconic book “Les Prophéties” which ominously foretold the future with poetic accuracy. Wars, plagues of sickness and death, natural disasters, rebellions – these are just some of the disturbing predictions in this classic work. As we approach 2K23 on our calendars, let’s take a closer look at what lies ahead according to Nostradamus’ vision. But before that examination commences; firstly allow us to reflect upon what has come before us…

How did Nostradamus do with his prophecies for last year? Cryptocurrency has experienced a significant fall, inflation is still at record levels and Netflix’s notorious tribute to the late cannibalistic serial killer was one of the streaming service’s most-viewed programs ever. AI meanwhile remains on an upward trajectory. It seems that it would seem that when all is said and done, Nostradamus’ predictions weren’t too far off!

As we gaze into the future and arm ourselves with a bone toothpick, let’s explore Nostradamus’ predictions for 2023.

Global warming and lots and lots of dead fish

In a captivating, if not alarming, piece of prophecy Nostradamus foretells the destruction of sea life, “Like the sun the head shall sear the shining sea: The Black Sea’s living fish shall all but boil.” Our beloved seafood could soon become a thing of the past due to climate change. A sobering thought, indeed – and one that has been recently backed up by scientific research. With temperatures on Earth rising exponentially, many fish species are predicted to become extinct in the near future. Our planet is undeniably headed toward disaster unless we take drastic measures now… otherwise, there may be no other option than consuming each other!

Buckingham Palace ablaze

Nostradamus prophesied that 2K23 would witness a “Celestial fire on the royal edifice.” Interpreting this literally, it could mean an asteroid is destined to crash into Buckingham Palace, leading to its destruction. However, metaphorically speaking, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have wielded a different sort of firepower in their recent Netflix series; they have ignited flames aimed at dismantling the public image of the monarchy as we once knew it with their shocking revelations about mistreatment from the crown.

World War III

Predictions of Nostradamus reveal that the world will find itself embroiled in conflict and tumult come 2K23, “Seven months great war, people dead through evil.” Nostradamus’s warning of a power-hungry “evil” who causes massive destruction and hate is tragically relevant to the current events in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin, whose rule has been marked by war crimes against civilians and an appalling death toll, embodies this sinister figure Nostradamus warned about centuries ago. Urgent action is needed now, before it’s too late to save countless innocent lives from further suffering at the hands of such cruel leaders.

The prophecy bodes a devastating clash that could potentially escalate into global warfare in the forthcoming year, thus resulting in catastrophic consequences due to nuclear armaments. But it doesn’t end there – this battle also has massive implications for our future and may even lead to scenarios associated with an Antichrist-like figure!

Antichrist cometh

According to Nostradamus, this will take place in or around 2023, “The antichrist very soon annihilates the three. Twenty-seven years his war will last. The unbelievers are dead, captive, exiled. With blood, human bodies, water and red hail covering the earth.” Unsurprisingly, the Antichrist is a male with an insatiable thirst for bloodshed – potentially any world leader beneath their false images and business suits.

War and the treatment of unbelievers are two clear indications that Putin might be the antichrist, yet Elon Musk’s Halloween costume has people wondering if he is a prime candidate too. Additionally, let us hope 2023 does not live up to anyone’s expectations after hearing about “red hail covering the earth”, which in reality could turn out to be similar to Tigran Hamasyan’s album from 2019, Red Hail – and it was rather pleasant!
