She and her family took on 6-year-old Michael, and his 5 year old sister Jess.

They were eager to add a third child when they discovered that the couple ahead of them had one as well.

Julia and her spouse were shocked to hear some bad news as the three new siblings moved in with the Washington family. They had been unable to locate one of the children. Elijah, who was 17 months old, would be placed in foster care if he did not find a family that wanted him.

The idea of separating the four brothers made Julia and her husband furious. They couldn’t fall asleep knowing they hadn’t been able to bring all the boys into their home and care for them as a family. But it just wouldn’t be feasible for them to do so. They didn’t have enough money to add any more people to their household.

Several days after the accident, when Julia saw how upset her children were about their parents’ divorce, she informed anybody she encountered of the tragedy. Her tale eventually reached Jay Houston, a family woman herself. Jay was distressed by the story and wanted to do something to assist baby Elijah and keep him near his other siblings. One morning, Jay Houston had a stroke of genius. She sat up in bed, overcome with ideas and possibilities, and pondered adopting Elijah.

It was a “insane” notion, and Jay was apprehensive to suggest it to Julia because she would be labeled insane. When she eventually got the nerve to share her fantastic concept with her neighbor, Julia was delighted. She considered it an ideal answer given the constraints imposed by the universe.

With that, the process of adopting Elijah began. Soon after, Elijah moved in with Jay and became familiar with his brothers and sister.
