Chicago descended into lawless chaos once again this weekend as a violent leftist driver deliberately rammed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle in the middle of heavy traffic — the latest in a string of shocking attacks on federal agents trying to do their jobs.
The disturbing scene, captured on video, shows a black SUV barreling into the back of an ICE truck before repeatedly slamming into it while horrified bystanders looked on. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the attack unfolded Saturday afternoon amid growing hostility toward federal immigration enforcement in so-called “sanctuary cities” like Chicago — where local leaders have tied the hands of law enforcement while criminals run wild.
As the ICE agents attempted to escape the ambush, the SUV driver gave chase, ramming the vehicle several more times before federal officers drew their weapons to prevent the suspect from fleeing. It remains unclear whether the driver was immediately taken into custody, but DHS officials confirmed that several agents sustained injuries in the escalating violence.
This latest assault came just hours after another incident in the city, where Border Patrol agents were ambushed by a mob of anti-ICE agitators — part of what authorities described as a coordinated attack by “domestic terrorists.” The confrontation ended when agents opened fire on an armed woman, identified as 31-year-old Marimar Martinez, who allegedly brandished a semi-automatic weapon during the melee. Martinez, along with another driver, Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, has since been arrested and charged after ramming law enforcement vehicles and attempting to dox federal officers online.
“The scene became increasingly violent as more domestic terrorists gathered and began throwing smoke, gas, rocks, and bottles at DHS law enforcement,” the department said in a statement, describing an urban battlefield fueled by anti-police sentiment and radical ideology.
The Biden administration’s refusal to enforce immigration law has emboldened violent extremists, many of whom openly target ICE and Border Patrol personnel. Chicago — a sanctuary city led by far-left politicians — has become a hotbed for these attacks, as federal authorities are forced to pick up the slack where local leaders refuse to cooperate.
“These attacks on our brave law enforcement officers must END,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Secretary Kristi Noem has taken action to deploy additional resources to restore law and order. We will not allow domestic terrorists to attack our law enforcement.”
