Liam Deane was convicted of murdering his two-day-old daughter, Luna, by striking her in the head during a bout of anger. Only a month after being incarcerated, Liam Deane’s body was discovered dead in his cell. John Westland, a fellow detainee, has been accused of strangling Liam Deane and has appeared before the court on the day following the discovery of Liam Deane’s corpse in his cell.

After his baby was taken away to the authorities for her injuries, Deane admitted to beating his two-day-old infant daughter. He stated that he not only punched the newborn in the head but also shook her violently. He inflicted fatal damage on the kid because she “would not stop crying,” and her shrieks were extremely annoying to him as a young father. He didn’t want her to cry anymore, so he kept hitting her until she stopped. While his approach functioned, it was also deadly and resulted in a life sentence in prison.

When Deane hit his infant daughter while she was crying, he knocked her out. It took three days for the baby to die as a result of her injuries, which means doctors and nurses did all they could to try to save her. She passed away in the hospital as a result of head injuries sustained in the assault.

Deane was found guilty in a quick trial and sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering an infant girl. A month into his sentence, he died at the hands of another inmate. Though the reasoning behind this act has not been clarified, it’s likely that Westland wanted revenge on Deane for taking the baby’s life.

“[Deane] said he was responsible for all of the injuries that she had suffered, and he said that Luna had not settled down and he lost control,” said the prosecutor in court.

“In my submission, there is simply no explanation for the defendant’s [behavior],” Richard Wright, who represented Deane said. “His actions were wholly and utterly out of character for him. The defendant will have a very long time to reflect upon his terrible [behavior].”

As the court was in session, Wright read a statement from the victim’s mother.

“Seeing Luna on life support in the hospital will last with me forever,” the statement reads. “I can’t describe how that felt. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy.”

The young mother added: “I hope that no other parent has to go through what I have had to. I don’t think any sentence will ever be long enough for him.”

It’s uncertain what the relationship was between Deane and Westland, but it’s clear that Westland took offense to Deane’s crime. He murdered the infant girl in a savage manner before being killed by another prisoner in revenge for his crimes.

Deane will never be able to hurt another child again. Though, it is important to remember the innocent baby girl who lost her life because of Deane’s actions.
