The true cost of the Biden administration’s disastrous 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal is coming into sharper focus — and it’s even worse than conservatives feared. According to a bombshell report from the Justice Department’s inspector general, at least **55 Afghan evacuees flagged on the terrorist watchlist** made it into the United States during Biden’s chaotic and rushed evacuation.
The report, released Tuesday, confirms what many Republicans — and common-sense Americans — have warned since the humiliating fall of Kabul: the Biden White House abandoned proper vetting procedures and jeopardized American lives to cover up its foreign policy failure. While Biden was busy patting himself on the back for “ending the war,” his administration was opening the floodgates to tens of thousands of unvetted refugees — some of whom were known or suspected terrorists.
“I’ve sounded the alarm about the need to thoroughly vet Afghan evacuee applicants since August 2021,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who has been one of the few voices demanding accountability from day one. “The Biden-Harris administration, my Democrat colleagues in Congress, and many in the media were quick to dismiss glaring red flags that a nonpartisan national security analysis now confirms.”
According to the report, the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center identified 55 Afghan evacuees either already on the watchlist when they arrived at U.S. ports of entry or who were added during the resettlement process. Shockingly, **at least 21 individuals weren’t flagged until after they had already entered the country.**
While the FBI ultimately removed 46 individuals from the watchlist — admitting they were incorrectly flagged — nine remain on the terror list to this day. **Eight of them are currently inside the United States.** That’s not just incompetence — that’s a national security failure.
Sen. Grassley didn’t mince words: “The Biden-Harris administration endangered American lives by allowing suspected terrorists to enter the United States and roam free for years,” he said. “My oversight of this matter will continue.”
In total, Biden’s Operation Allies Refuge and Operation Allies Welcome programs allowed roughly **90,000 Afghans** to enter the U.S. with Special Immigrant Visas and resettlement assistance. But according to the DOJ IG, the **FBI was forced to abandon normal security protocols** to keep up with the administration’s rushed timetable.
“The need to immediately evacuate Afghans overtook the normal processes required to determine whether individuals attempting to enter the United States pose a threat to national security,” the report acknowledged. “This increased the risk that bad actors could try to exploit the expedited evacuation.”
And that’s exactly what happened.
In one terrifying example, federal authorities last year arrested Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi — a 27-year-old Afghan national who entered the U.S. just weeks after the Taliban retook Kabul. Tawhedi, who was resettled in Oklahoma City on a Special Immigrant Visa, is accused of plotting a deadly ISIS-inspired attack on American soil. According to the Justice Department, Tawhedi stockpiled AK-47 rifles and ammunition to carry out a mass-casualty attack on Election Day “in the name of ISIS.” He now faces charges for conspiring and attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
Think about that: while Biden and his administration continue to insist they handled the Afghanistan withdrawal “responsibly,” Americans are learning that known terror suspects walked right into our country — some of whom were planning mass murder while living comfortably under Biden’s failed policies.
Democrats and the media can try to spin this as a minor issue, but the facts are clear. Biden’s reckless, politically motivated withdrawal didn’t just surrender Afghanistan to the Taliban — it also created a security nightmare here at home. The American people deserve answers. And they deserve leaders who will finally put national security ahead of leftist narratives.
The tragedy in Afghanistan didn’t end when our troops left. Thanks to Biden’s incompetence, the danger followed us home.
