People of color live with racism every day, and many feel that a significant portion of our society, such as the White elites who benefit from it, has no intention to eradicate it. Many people believe that American institutions are racist and that people are privileged or downtrodden based on their race. So, why would anyone believe that it is necessary or beneficial to teach anything that would promote racism in our schools, considering there are so many other areas of interest that students and educators alike could be striving towards today? A video of a parent addressing an Illinois board of educators was released on Twitter, showing him adamantly rejecting the idea of bringing Critical Race Theory into the classroom. This footage has been seen over 2 million times and has gone viral. At an 87th District session of the Illinois School Board, Ty Smith, an African American, made passionate statements about teaching such racist notions to youngsters.

Ty Smith informed the education board that educating young men and women about Critical Race Theory in schools is essentially teaching them how to hate and resent one another. He believes that teaching Critical Race Theory in schools would not assist white and black students because it would generate the same kind of belligerence that he and so many others had encountered in school and life. Critics of the idea, on the other hand, argue that it renders the same individuals that the Civil Rights movement aimed to unite worthless, which is what prompted Ty Smith to respond and vent his emotions so passionately to the board. While the project began as a study of how laws and processes foster civil inequality, it has subsequently expanded to look at the function of a decision-making class in the establishment of social structures that are considered epitomes of institutionalized racism.

Several recent occurrences have galvanized the CRT movement, including police shootings of unarmed blacks in arbitrary traffic stops or even unlawful house invasions that ended in the deaths of innocent people, such as Breonna Taylor, who was caught in a crossfire. Ty Smith has told the media that he intends to keep fighting Critical Race Theory and that he will be even better prepared by the end of the year. Ty told the reporters that he believes in just one race, the human race and that CRT is a load of nonsense. He declares that it is nothing more than faux-outrage and exploiting people’s emotions, and he is not alone. Since Ty has addressed the school board and the video has gone viral, he has received a lot of support from his community as well as emails from individuals all around the world praising him for speaking up for today’s and tomorrow’s youths.
