Once again, the corporate media proves they care more about pushing narratives than reporting facts. In the immediate aftermath of a deadly shooting at a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper, CNN’s Erin Burnett managed to spark outrage — not over the brutal crime itself, but over her tone-deaf, racially charged speculation.
While reporting on the mass shooting that tragically claimed the lives of NYPD Officer Didarul Islam and three civilians, Burnett rushed to characterize the gunman as “possibly white” during her live broadcast. Her statement, which was based on early footage of the suspect walking into 345 Park Avenue armed with an AR-15-style rifle, was not only premature but flat-out misleading.

The shooter, later identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, clearly had a darker or ethnically ambiguous complexion in the released photos. Early police sources even noted he could be of Middle Eastern descent — a far cry from Burnett’s “possibly white” assessment.
The internet wasn’t having it. Critics on social media tore into Burnett and CNN for their knee-jerk racial assumptions. “He may be a bunch of different things — basically anything BUT white,” one user pointed out. Others called for CNN’s shutdown altogether, with one commenter on X saying, “They haven’t reported a truthful story in what seems like forever.”

It’s yet another case of the mainstream media’s desperate scramble to fit every crime into their preferred narrative. When a shooter can be painted as white and male, networks like CNN jump at the chance to suggest broader societal blame — typically aimed at conservatives or gun owners. But when that narrative crumbles under actual evidence, they quietly change the subject.
The tragic incident unfolded Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. when Tamura stormed the 44-story high-rise armed with a Palmetto State Armory AR-15 rifle. The building, home to financial powerhouse Blackstone and even NFL offices, became a scene of horror as Tamura gunned down four people before turning the weapon on himself.

Officer Didarul Islam, 36, a proud member of the NYPD, was shot and killed in the lobby — sacrificing his life in the line of duty. The other victims have not yet been publicly identified. Chaos erupted as bystanders fled the scene, with chilling social media footage showing people sprinting away from the building and workers being escorted out with their hands raised.
Yet instead of focusing on the bravery of the police or the loss suffered by the victims’ families, CNN chose to editorialize with racial speculation. Erin Burnett’s irresponsible reporting is emblematic of a network more interested in political theater than in facts or human decency.
This isn’t journalism. It’s agenda-peddling — and the American public is waking up to it.
As investigations continue, one thing is clear: the media’s obsession with identity politics has once again undermined honest reporting. And in the face of real tragedy, CNN showed its true colors — not red, white, and blue, but partisan and agenda-driven.
