Rocky is a seventeen-year-old dog who came to Anne Arundel County sheltie when he was very old. For the past three years, Rocky had not found a place to call home. It is common to find old and senior dogs without homes because most people are attracted to young, good-looking puppies. Most people think old dogs are too sick to keep, and they may not give birth. There is also the mental notion that young dogs can undergo training efficiently. Moreover, they don’t get sick quickly. Rocky came to the shelter home when he was fourteen years old. The previous owner died, and therefore the dog had now become homeless with no one to take care of him. Most of the time, the dog was lonely, sad, and depressed. Rocky was sad because he was probably missing his previous owner. No matter how much the volunteers at the shelter tried to make him happy, their efforts were to no avail. So many times, guests would come looking for dogs, and they would easily pass Rocky. Most of the time, they came for younger dogs, and therefore Rocky would not be noticed by any of them.
After four Christmas years, Rocky was not yet adopted. However, something new came this year, and it was none of his expectations. Michael and Beth are couples who would come every Christmas to donate dog food in animal shelters. They love animals, and they always dedicate their Christmas time to spend it with animals. It was this particular day that Beth came across Rocky and noticed that sadness in his eyes. Beth and Rocky had continuous eye contact. The longing in their eye s was unbreakable. Rocky had hope in Michael and Beth. The couple decided to walk around with Rocky, and they noticed the sweetness and how loving Rocky was. They couldn’t resist seeing how perfect the dog was for them. By the time they were going back after a long walk around with the dog, they had decided to take the dog with them. The shelter’s volunteers were amazed to hear the good news. They could not believe that finally, the old dog found a home. For so many years, it had stayed in the shelter feeling sad and lonely, and no one had the interest to take it home.
During Christmas, the dog looked happy because he was finally going to spend the holidays with a family. It was unusual to some people because the couple had adopted an old dog. They kept wondering who would love to have an old dog. Beth expressed his love for the dog by explaining how Rocky was the best Christmas gift they ever wanted. Beth admitted that there would be extra accommodations for the dog, but that didn’t matter because Rocky was her special gift. Six months after adopting the dog, the couple realized that Beth was. Pregnant. After the baby was born, Rocky was in love with it and kept spending every minute around the baby. Unfortunately, after the baby was born, Rocky became sick and died at the age of 19. Despite the couple’s efforts to get it treated, the doctor had nothing else to improve the dog’s condition. As much as the dog did not live for long, Beth and Micheal did their best to give the dog a happy life. Rocky spent the remaining two years of his life in a happy and loving family.
