Meteorologists have begun to offer forecasts for 2018-2019 winter weather conditions, and the prediction is bleak and troublesome for many of Americans.
People should expect a harsh winter that could extend into the spring of 2019. Although it’s difficult to predict exactly what the outcome will be, Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok believes it will definitely be unusual and record-breaking in many parts of the country.
He predicts the Northeast and the Midwest will see frequent, persistent bursts of snowy weather with record precipitation, and the winter will be marked with short stabs of cold throughout the already-bitter Northern Plains.
Cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. could easily become encumbered by heavy snowfall, while parts of Minnesota could see night of 20 or 30 degrees below freezing.
Overall, average temperatures in these regions could range at 5-10 degrees below average.
The Southeast could also see lower than average temperatures that could potentially kill some citrus crops in Florida and Georgia, with the potential hazard of instances of severe weather.
Texas and other Southern states will face a milder, drier winter, which would certainly offer relief to some.
Many places, including the Northwest, could see a late start to winter, but don’t be deceived by higher than average temperatures in December, because this could just be a lull before record lows set in in the early part of 2019.
