A woman in Ohio wrote on Facebook about an act of kindness shown to her and her grandmother by an employee of the Kroger grocery store chain.

The post is now spreading quickly over the Internet, providing an example of great customer service, as well as a reminder of how easy it can be to improve someone’s day by a single simple act.

On January 4 in Athens, Ohio, the woman who wrote the post was shopping at Kroger with her grandmother. It was her grandmother’s 90th birthday, and she was buying a cake for the celebration.

The woman began talking with the cashier, Wes, and he asked what the cake was for. Upon hearing that it was the grandmother’s 90th birthday, Wes asked them to wait a minute.

He ran over to the flower stand, bought a rose, and asked to give it to the grandmother to help celebrate.

Instead, the woman decided to take a picture of her grandmother, Wes, and the rose together for a special birthday memory.

The cashier’s kind act, she said, “really made Gramma’s day,” and she hopes that someone at Kroger’s corporate headquarters takes notice of his going above and beyond for customer service.
