It’s been twenty years since Fallon, who was just starting out in his professional life, performed a racist skit that has now prompted him to rush to cover it up. Because Fallon was prepared to put on blackface in order to progress in his profession at the expense of blacks throughout the United States – all for the sake of making it – he is now scrambling to get his apology in front of as many people as possible.
While Fallon has apologized for using blackface as a way to make a joke about race in the United States, some believe his career is on its last legs. People are hyper-aware of comedians and actors with a sordid history of engaging in racist behavior like blackface and other outrageous scenarios due to the politically correct climate during the Trump administration.
Fallon now wants to hide behind his tail and erase the stain on his reputation that he earned in 2000 while on the cast of Saturday Night Live. However, he has only spoken about his history of blackface recently, after a clip of it surfaced online and was shared with others.
“In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this,” Fallon said.
The recent Twitter video of Jimmy Fallon in blackface prompted the show’s public relations staff to scramble for the “right” solution. When performing an impression of comedian Chris Rock, Fallon coated his face with charcoal.
Now that Fallon has climbed to the top of the entertainment world, he wishes to apologize for using blackface when he was climbing up. Although he was prepared to go to any length back in 2000 – including donning dark makeup in order to elicit a chuckle – if people do not forgive him quickly and forget his racist act, he now has a lot to lose.
Fallon said, “I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable.”
It appears, however, that Fallon has not been held accountable. He is still in charge of his lucrative career and his large fan base.
Jimmy Fallon has come under fire for using blackface to boost his career. Supporters and critics are demanding that he be let go. Despite clear knowledge of its racist intent, they want his program to be “canceled.”
When the Jimmy Fallon blackface video was published, someone wrote on Twitter: “NBC fired Megan Kelly for mentioning blackface. Jimmy Fallon performed on NBC in blackface.”
Another one said, “Megyn Kelly was dismissed for being insensitive in merely DISCUSSING kids wearing blackface on Halloween. Jimmy Fallon actually WORE blackface while impersonating Chris Rock. He’s still working for NBC.”
People want Jimmy Fallon to be held accountable.
“I wish, they do realize they have a 0% chance of even canceling him, right? This was 20 years ago and nowhere close to career-ending,” another person tweeted.
