Ten months ago, the police in Uvalde, Texas provoked tremendous outrage when it was exposed that they had allowed a school shooter to roam unchecked for more than an hour, resulting in the deaths of 21 young children and educators.
Following the revelation that two Nashville police officers were able to apprehend mass shooter Audrey Hale within 14 minutes of her attack at The Covenant School, this law enforcement personnel have once again come under fire for their swift response.
Heroes Rex Englebert and Michael Collazo of Nashville recently demonstrated their unparalleled courage when a harrowing bodycam video exposed them running straight into the barrage of bullets, swiftly taking down the 28-year-old shooter with accurate shots.
Joseph Giacalone, a retired NYPD sergeant, highlighted the stark contrast between Uvalde’s law enforcement and their colleagues across the country in response to The Post on Tuesday.
Giacalone applauded the speedy responses of Nashville officers for their decisive actions and “zero hesitation.”
“Each one of these cops took a leadership role here and I don’t think we can say the same thing for what happened in Texas,” the John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor stated.
“The longer you wait the more you hesitate or think about these things. It’s paralysis by analysis and that didn’t happen.”
Giacalone continued: “You think about what’s going on with the heart rate and all the other things that go along with this. They did a great job.”
Tragically, both three of the school’s nine-year-old students and its headmaster were victims of a former student’s heinous attack. Hale ruthlessly massacred three innocent adults as well in her abhorrent rampage.
Last May, Uvalde was thrown into disarray after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos entered the Robb Elementary School and unleashed a ruthless massacre, brutally murdering 19 students and two teachers.
The bodycam footage of the Uvalde shooting revealed some officers warning that the assailant was armed with an “AR” while others stated they wished to avoid being, as one officer put it, “clapped out.”
Distinctive footage revealed a multitude of officers standing idly by, awaiting orders while the assailant was able to wander freely.
After viewing the two police responses, social media users quickly condemned the Uvalde officers as “cowards”, sparking a wave of criticism.
“Incredibly brave police, in marked contrast to the Uvalde cowards,” Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter.
“In Uvalde the shooter had an AR-15 and dozens of armed cops waited outside for almost an hour while wounded children bled out In Nashville the shooter had an AR-15 and 5 cops rushed in and took them out in minutes Nashville PD just set the standard for the entire country,” Rogan O’Handley posted on Twitter.
Ryan Fournier continued: “The cowardice officers of the Uvalde police department could learn a thing or two from these HEROES. Despite being fired upon by the shooter, they ran towards the danger and eliminated the threat. God Bless them!”
