The deep state is in full panic mode. Employees at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were caught red-handed trying to cover their tracks as Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) moved in to investigate the bloated, taxpayer-funded bureaucracy.
Ever since President Trump returned to the Oval Office, his administration has made it clear that the federal government needs a serious housecleaning. With Musk leading the charge at DOGE, the goal is simple: eliminate waste, cut corruption, and dismantle the radical-left bureaucratic strongholds that have operated unchecked for decades.
USAID has been a prime target for reform. Musk has called the agency “beyond repair” and a “criminal organization” that serves as nothing more than a slush fund for leftist interests. President Trump reportedly agrees, giving Musk the green light to seize control of the agency and shut it down.
But when DOGE investigators arrived at USAID headquarters in Washington, D.C., last week, employees didn’t exactly welcome transparency. Instead, they scrambled to hide evidence.
Kristina Drye, a USAID speechwriter, admitted to witnessing the chaos firsthand. “DOGE was in the building. We started—we took down our Pride flags, we took down—I took out any books I felt would be incriminating,” she revealed.
She described a frantic atmosphere where employees feared exposure, with DOGE officials monitoring internal communications and locking down access to government systems. “No one was talking. We heard they started taking transcripts automatically of all of our Google Meets,” Drye said. “They unplugged the news in the little kitchen galleys. It didn’t feel good. And then Saturday, all of the websites went down. And then I lost complete access to my computer.”
This is precisely the kind of secrecy and misconduct Musk has been warning about. “USAID was a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America,” Musk declared. He went even further, calling USAID “a ball of worms, not even an apple with a worm in it.”
Unsurprisingly, the usual establishment figures are outraged. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer lashed out at the Trump administration, accusing them of letting an “un-elected secret group” run wild in Washington.
But Musk wasn’t about to let Schumer’s deep-state theatrics go unanswered. “He’s mad that @DOGE is dismantling the radical-left shadow government in full view of the public,” Musk responded on X. “This is our ONE CHANCE to return POWER to the PEOPLE from an unelected BUREAUcracy back to DEMOcracy!! Only with the support of YOU can this succeed. Thank you, unknown soldiers.”
Schumer’s complaints ring hollow. Where was this concern for “public institutions” when bureaucrats under Obama and Biden weaponized the IRS, FBI, and DOJ against conservatives? Where was the outrage when unelected officials pushed COVID mandates, censored free speech, and funneled billions of taxpayer dollars into left-wing pet projects?
Musk is right: this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dismantle the deep state. The American people have had enough of shadowy bureaucrats undermining democracy while hiding behind closed doors. The Trump administration isn’t just draining the swamp—it’s demolishing the dam that let these creatures fester in the first place.
