Although 2012 was the year the world was purported to end by a Mayan calender, 2014 is where the focus really shifted to the apocalypse.
TV, books, movies, merchandise – the world became obsessed with the undead, zombie apocalypses, and human survival after “the end.” Given this strange, global fascination with the fall of humanity, its uninspiring that some people have actually considered the real possibility of a disaster striking our planet, and have accordingly taken measures to ensure their safety should the unthinkable arrive.
Underground shelters are very real, although upon initial inspection they seem like something out of a sci-fi movie. Or, more accurately, an apocalypse centered show.
The sanctums created by Atlas Survival Shelters are designed with survival in mind. They can be created in any size, from a tiny, hole-like bunker to a sprawling underground sanctuary.
A trap door covered in sticks and twigs that appears completely hidden can be lifted to reveal a dark tunnel descending into the earth.
A ladder leads to the shelter itself, which is a circular tube buried deep beneath the surface, to provide protection from natural disaster, looters, and of course, zombies.
The airtight shelters are designed to be built at least 10′ feet below the surface to allow for a proprietary geo-thermal cooling system as well as a C02 air scrubber that removes carbon dioxide from the shelter’s atmosphere when the air system is turned off or if pipes become blocked.
These underground shelters can be decorated and styled just like a home, with proper beds, a functional bathroom and washing machine, even a TV. For a hefty price, survivalists at heart can get a leg up on the population and get to designing their home away from home 20′ underground.
