A two-year-old is lucky to be alive after a dresser fell on top of him. He has his twin brother to thank. The toddler managed to lift the dresser off of the boy. The boys’ parents saw the ordeal on video. The boys, whose names are Brock and Bowdy Shoff, were playing in their room. They climbed on top of the dresser. The dresser fell and trapped Brock underneath it.
In the video, you can see Bowdy walking around trying to figure out how he can get the dresser off of his brother. He ended up pushing the dresser, and his brother climbed from underneath it. The boys are shaken by this scary incident, but they do not have any injuries.
Ricky Shoff is the boy’s father. He posted the video on Facebook. Even though he was skeptical at first, he decided to post the video to raise awareness about how quickly things can happen. The video also shows the special bond that the brothers have for each other.
Ricky says that he and his wife were upstairs during the time the incident occurred. They did not hear the dresser fall. The wife went downstairs to see if the boys were okay. She noticed that the dresser was tipped over, but the boys were fine. She figured out what happened when she reviewed the video.
Ricky and his wife are ecstatic that their son is okay. However, they want everyone to know that what happened to their son can happen to any child. They recommend that people make sure that the dresser is secured and bolted to the wall.
The video has been posted on YouTube. It has been viewed over 796,000 times. The parents have been criticized for the video. One person stated that the parents should be investigated for neglect. Another person stated that the two-year-olds should have never been left alone. Additionally, someone else stated that the video shows how responsible the parents are.
Cindy Dennis works for Safe Kids of Northeast Florida. She has stated that it is important to secure any type of heavy furniture. This includes things such as fish tanks, dressers, bookcases and televisions. Many parents are already aware of the fact that tall furniture can be dangerous. However, short furniture can cause just as much damage.
There are many inexpensive products that you can use to secure furniture. Wall straps, brackets, braces and anchors are examples of some of the products that you can use. Securing furniture is especially important if you have children in your home who are under the age of five. Cindy also recommends that items that tempt children to climb on furniture should be kept away from it. Additionally, it is a good idea to buy drawer stops.
Cindy has stated that Brock is very lucky to not have any injuries. Bruises, cuts and internal injuries can happen if furniture falls on a person. It is estimated that 25,000 children have to go to the emergency room because of tipping furniture.
