President Trump’s Department of Transportation just delivered a powerful message to lawless sanctuary cities across America: cooperate with immigration enforcement or lose your taxpayer-funded handouts. In a bold move that has already sent left-wing mayors into a frenzy, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that cities harboring illegal immigrants while allowing violent leftist mobs to wreak havoc on infrastructure won’t see another dime from the federal government.
Duffy’s warning came days after yet another chaotic anti-ICE riot erupted in Los Angeles on June 6, where radical activists—shielded by Democrat politicians—trashed public property and disrupted traffic, all while local authorities stood by doing nothing.
“The @USDOT will NOT fund rogue state actors who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement,” Duffy declared in a June 16 post on X. “And to cities that stand by while rioters destroy transportation infrastructure — don’t expect a red cent from DOT, either. Follow the law, or forfeit the funding.”
It’s a refreshing change of tone after four years of Biden-era lawlessness, where sanctuary cities were rewarded with billions while federal immigration laws were ignored or outright defied.
President Trump himself weighed in the day before via Truth Social, calling for the expansion of what he rightly dubbed “the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.” The President made it clear: cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago—epicenters of Democrat corruption and illegal alien protections—will now be front and center in ICE’s renewed operations.
“These cities are the core of the Democrat Power Center,” Trump wrote. “They use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”
Transportation Secretary @SecDuffy gives remarks at President Trump's Cabinet meeting: "If you don't follow the law, if you're giving licenses to illegals, if you're having DEI policies, we are not going to fund your projects. And he’s not wrong. Sanctuary cities have long been a cornerstone of the Democrat strategy—harboring illegal immigrants, inflating population numbers, and manipulating voter rolls. Meanwhile, American families foot the bill and face rising crime, strained services, and vanishing job opportunities.
At an earlier Cabinet meeting in April, Duffy didn’t mince words: “We are not going to fund your projects.” He emphasized that states and cities must *certify compliance with federal law* in order to receive funds for roads, bridges, and rail. A common-sense requirement, yet one that will likely send blue-state governors into predictable outrage.
The left’s response? Silence on the violence, defiance of immigration law, and open hostility toward law enforcement. Trump put it plainly: “Radical Left Democrats are sick of mind, hate our Country, and actually want to destroy our Inner Cities.”
What makes this even more galling is the fact that these same cities beg Washington for infrastructure funding while simultaneously aiding and abetting criminal illegal aliens and refusing to cooperate with ICE. It’s a slap in the face to every law-abiding taxpayer.
But now, under Trump’s leadership, the free ride is over. No more handouts to cities that spit in the face of federal law. No more coddling radical politicians who let anarchists burn cities down. And no more pretending that sanctuary policies are anything but dangerous, destructive, and un-American.
The message from this administration is crystal clear: respect our laws, protect our citizens, and put Americans first—or get left behind.
