President Donald J. Trump is once again proving he’s not afraid to act when leaders fail. On Monday, he announced a sweeping crackdown on lawlessness in the nation’s capital — deploying the National Guard, placing the DC police under federal control, and promising to restore safety, beauty, and order to a city that has been spiraling under failed Democrat leadership.
“We’re going to clean it up real quick,” Trump told reporters, pointing to Washington’s soaring crime rates and a shocking August 3rd incident in which a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer was attacked while trying to stop an attempted carjacking by 10 teens.

The President didn’t mince words in laying out his approach: “You spit, and we hit,” he said, explaining that police will no longer be hamstrung by political correctness when confronting violent offenders. “They can hit real hard,” Trump added, sending a clear message to criminals that their days of running rampant are over.

Under his newly-declared “public safety emergency,” Trump will use his direct control over DC’s National Guard — a unique power the president holds over the District — to put boots on the ground. He made it clear that if the situation demands it, active-duty military could join the Guard and local police to secure the city.

The move also takes advantage of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act of 1973, which gives the president the authority to use the DC Metropolitan Police for federal purposes for up to 30 days. This means law enforcement in the capital will now be backed by the full weight of federal authority.
But Trump’s plan isn’t just about stopping violent crime. He’s aiming to completely transform the city. “Washington, DC, should be one of the safest, cleanest, and most beautiful cities anywhere in the world, and we’re going to make it that,” he declared.
Homeless encampments — many of which have turned into dangerous open-air drug zones — will be cleared from parks, sidewalks, and underpasses. Graffiti removal will be handled by the US Park Police under Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. “We get rid of the slums too,” Trump said bluntly, adding, “I know it’s not politically correct. You’ll say, oh, so terrible. No. We get rid of the slums where they live, caravans of mass youth rampage through city streets at all times of the day.”

Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser, who has presided over the city’s decline, has recently tried imposing curfews in certain neighborhoods, in some cases as early as 7 p.m., to keep teen mobs off the streets. She insists crime is going down, but Trump called her numbers “phony” and revealed that Attorney General Pam Bondi will be “looking into that.”
For years, DC has been a symbol of political power — but also of urban decay. With this bold federal intervention, Trump is making it clear: the nation’s capital will no longer be a playground for criminals. It’s time to clean up the streets, restore safety, and make Washington great again.
