President Donald Trump has pulled the plug on yet another failed Biden-era program, this time scrapping the $5 billion electric vehicle (EV) charging initiative that has been widely criticized for its incompetence and wasteful spending. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, a cornerstone of Joe Biden’s radical green agenda, was meant to expand EV charging networks across the country. Instead, after years of mismanagement, it produced almost nothing—except a hefty bill for taxpayers.
Emily Biondi, associate administrator for the Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty, confirmed the program’s suspension in a letter sent to state transportation officials last week. “The new leadership of the Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) has decided to review the policies underlying the implementation of the NEVI Formula Program,” Biondi wrote, effectively dismantling one of the Biden administration’s signature climate initiatives.
She further explained that no new funding would be approved until a full review of the program’s failures was completed. This move immediately halts any future obligations under the NEVI program, putting the brakes on an initiative that had already come under fire for its glaring lack of results.
Billions Spent, Almost Nothing to Show for It
The NEVI program was part of Biden’s massive $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, which prioritized electric vehicles over traditional American energy independence. However, despite the billions allocated, the program failed spectacularly. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, one of the most inept members of the Biden administration, was publicly embarrassed last year when questioned about the program’s lack of progress.
During an interview on CBS, host Margaret Brennan pressed Buttigieg on why the administration had spent billions yet produced only seven or eight charging stations across the entire country. “Why isn’t that happening more quickly?” she asked.
Clearly flustered, Buttigieg scrambled to defend the administration’s failure. “The President’s goal is to have half a million chargers up by the end of this decade,” he stammered. “Now, in order to do a charger, it’s more than just plugging a small device into the ground.”
Brennan, unimpressed, fired back: “Seven or eight, though?”
The interview quickly went viral, with conservatives blasting the administration for wasting taxpayer dollars while failing to deliver results. “Pete Buttigieg spent $7.5 BILLION and built seven or eight EV chargers. That’s almost a billion dollars per station. Government efficiency at its finest,” one critic posted on social media.
Trump Restores Sanity to Infrastructure Spending
With the NEVI program officially shut down, President Trump is once again cleaning up the mess left by Biden’s disastrous policies. Rather than forcing Americans into unreliable electric vehicles, Trump has vowed to restore common sense energy policies, including investing in reliable and affordable fuel sources.
Biden’s reckless spending on green energy pipe dreams has proven to be little more than a taxpayer-funded giveaway to special interests and bureaucrats. Under Trump, wasteful spending is being cut, and real solutions are taking its place. With this move, the days of funneling billions into projects that produce almost nothing are over.
