President Donald Trump is demanding accountability after FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that nearly 300 FBI agents were secretly deployed into the crowd at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021—a revelation that flatly contradicts sworn testimony given by former FBI Director Christopher Wray.
In late September, Patel confirmed that **274 plainclothes FBI agents** were in the crowd that day, supposedly as part of “crowd control” after the riot was declared by D.C. Metro Police. But Patel pointed out this was not only highly irregular—it directly violated FBI protocol. “Agents were sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared by Metro Police – something that goes against FBI standards,” Patel explained. “This was the failure of a corrupt leadership that lied to Congress and to the American people about what really happened.”
Those comments stand in stark contrast to Wray’s repeated testimony before Congress in 2021 and 2023, in which he insisted there were no undercover or plainclothes FBI agents in the crowd on January 6. Now, with Patel’s confirmation, Wray’s statements appear to have been deliberate lies to Congress.
President Trump immediately weighed in on Truth Social, blasting the FBI’s conduct and calling for a full investigation. “It was just revealed that the FBI had secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax,” Trump wrote.
He continued, “This is different from what Director Christopher Wray stated, over and over again! That’s right, as it now turns out, FBI Agents were at, and in, the January 6th Protest, probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as ‘Law Enforcement Officials.’”
Trump also underscored the grave injustice faced by his supporters who were prosecuted while the FBI’s role remained hidden. “I want to know who each and every one of these so-called ‘Agents’ are, and what they were up to on that now ‘Historic’ Day. Many Great American Patriots were made to pay a very big price only for the love of their Country. I owe this investigation of ‘Dirty Cops and Crooked Politicians’ to them!”
The 45th President made it clear that Wray must be held accountable: “Christopher Wray, the then Director of the FBI, has some major explaining to do. That’s two in a row, Comey and Wray, who got caught LYING, with our Great Country at stake. WE CAN NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN TO AMERICA AGAIN!”
The scandal comes on the heels of another bombshell: **former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted for lying to Congress.** Trump celebrated that development as a long-overdue measure of justice. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump declared: “I’d like to thank Kash Patel, and the outstanding members of the FBI, for their brilliant work on the recent Indictment of the Worst FBI Director in the History of our Country, James ‘Dirty Cop’ Comey.”
He added, “The level of enthusiasm by the FBI was incredible, but only caused by the fact that they knew Comey for what he is, and was, a total SLIMEBALL! Again, thank you to the FBI and, specifically, those that worked on this case with U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, and the DOJ. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Between Comey’s indictment and the revelation that Wray appears to have lied under oath about FBI involvement on January 6, conservatives say the rot inside the Bureau is undeniable. President Trump’s demand for a full accounting may finally bring answers to what really happened that day—and why the truth was buried for so long.
